Yes, he's been there since at least 2004!

LOOKS LIKE RED'S BACK AT THE EGGS. MAYBE GOING TO SETTLE DOWN FOR THE NIGHT LIKE HER MOM HAS DONE.

I was going to say the same thing, Reenie! And thanks for the info on the male.

Don't want to be a pest, but does this Craig live in Salisbury by any chance? If so, I know him. If not, I don't!

GREAT REPORT, BUT REALLY DIDN'T LIKE HEARING THAT THERE IS AN INTRUDER IN THE AREA. RED GIRL WILL GET UM, SHE'S BIG ENOUGH! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IF THEY CAN TELL WHERE THE MALE IS FROM. HE IS THE SAME MALE FROM PREVIOUS YEARS, RIGHT? SO MUCH TO REMEMBER!

My thoughts too on any intruder. I don't want to see trouble here, especially with Red Girl establishing her nest and tending her first clutch of eggs. I am sure she would be able to handle the situation though. Just don't want her to have to right now.

Kim - Thanks for posting the notes from Craig. I sure hope the intruders are just migrating falcons passing though on their way to somewhere else. After all the drama with previous intruders here, the Wilmington falcons deserve some peace as they start their new family.

The last two fights that we know about (March 15 and 24) involved the male, not Red Girl (although I suspect she was in a titanic fight some weeks ago.) Maybe these smaller skirmishes happen all the time and aren't necessarily a crisis if the home birds are in control. I'm guessing that the home pair is firmly bonded now, to their place, each other, and their eggs. They look like a good team (knock on wood).

I don't think he lives in Salisbury. And his last name is Koppie, not the last name you mentioned so I don't think it's the same person.

I told someone on Sunday that I would give them the link to our old female falcon attacking the peephole last year but I can't remember who so I'm posting it here! Never put your face up to a peephole when a falcon's chicks are being banded! :)

WOW, THAT WAS SOMETHING. I WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAD A PEEPHOLE! WE HAVE ONE TOO ON THE LEDGE PART, BUT YOU CAN'T SEE INTO THE SCRAPE. NOTICE HOW SHE SEEMED TO BE ATTACKING WITH HER TALONS FIRST LIKE THEY FIGHT. SHE PROBABLY SAW THE REFLECTION OF THE CAMERA. BOY, THEY CAN SEE STUFF YOU NEVER THOUGHT THEY COULD. I'VE HAD JUVIES ATTACK THE WINDOW BY THE PEEPHOLE ALREADY WHEN THEY WERE AFTER BUGS AND SPIDERS THAT FORM ON THE WINDOWS. YOU SWEAR THEY ARE GOING TO BREAK THEIR BEAKS! THANKS FOR SHARING THAT WITH US KIM, GLAD YOU COULDN'T REMEMBER WHO WANTED TO SEE IT, LOL!

That video was actually from banding day and we had a couple of her kids which you can hear screaming in the background! She could hear us when we first got there though and we were being really quiet!

Here's another video of Craig putting red tape over the band on one of the kids. You would think he was hurting her with all the noise she's making!!!

OH YES, OURS DO THAT TOO, JUST SCARED. WHEN THEY BAND OUR'S, THEY HAVE ONE HOLD THEM AND THE LEG OUT FOR BANDING SO IT'S EASIER TO GET THOSE BANDS ON BY ANOTHER PERSON. MAYBE YOU COULD HELP THEM THIS YEAR :-)

Kim - Thanks for the video links. The one with the female attacking the peephole was awesome!

I still see only 3 eggs in the scrape this morning, but I'm hoping that egg #4 will arrive later today.

:easterbask:

P.S. Catwoman - Loved your picture yesterday contrasting father and daughter on their eggs!

Kim.& Greg thanks for all the info. Very interesting and scary at the same time.Got a feeling of sadness when I saw the resident female in the peep hole. Just my sentimental nature. Made me tear up. Hope the intruders are gone. Greg I told my family about the birds you are seeing & they were saying they are getting them from the Peterson Wild Life Refuge. My stepson put the roof on that building. We are getting more involved everyday.

Faith, I agree that the falcons probably hunt at the Peterson Refuge, which is less than two miles from the nest. Some of the shorebirds may also come from along the Delaware River which is about as close.

Red's on the eggs now.

Those videos were really fun to watch, although you feel sorry for the distress they are undergoing. Such gorgeous animals!

Thanks for the video links, Kim! I wouldn't want to tangle with your former resident female (or the current one)! I alway feel so sorry for the chicks & parents on banding day. :-(

In Harrisburg, they can slide one of the windows at the ledge back to access the ledge & remove the chicks for banding. Last year they decided that they would quickly band 1 (out of 5) & get her back on the ledge & that Mom probably wouldn't realize that her other chicks weren't on the ledge--yeah, right! She stood in front of the "bad window" yelling at them for a long time even after they put one chick back on the ledge. She might not be able to count, but she knows that 1 chick doesn't equal 5 chicks!

You're right about that, Nancy! I'm still not 100% in agreement that they can't count. Of course, I have no scientific evidence to back that up with. But I'm sure they can tell the difference.

I'm looking forward to watching the vids posted by Kim. I have to wait a little while since I'm at work.

I saw somewhere that ravens can count up to five.

The male took a turn on the eggs at around 7:30 EST. A flicker wing is on the sidewalk below the nest.
