Still not seen Polly around since last time ...
But it has been rainy and cloudy here, sunny and warm weather is expected tomorrow, maybe she will show up to the box then.
I know it's much better that she leaves her parents alone for the time being but I miss her already

At least she should be easy to recognize if she's seen somewhere, with her right leg showing when she flies.

I had been wondering about Polly and if she had been sighted anywhere near the nest box. Hope she is okay!

Polly just came into the box despite it appearing that her parents (who were both there) were telling her to leave. They ended up leaving Polly alone with the eggs, & I was SOOOO afraid she was going to damage the eggs. Don't know why I thought that, but we don't know much about a sub-adult's reaction to a parent's new eggs. She ended up leaving & not harming the eggs. Pics to follow (once I calm down).

Good catch Nancy!! Yeah I was very afraid too!!! she's SO clueless!!!
She chased Spirit out of the nest about 1 hour ago, and now Roger wanted to come incubate and she chased him away as well. But both times the parents left the box and went to perch somwhere else, it was like they were trying to lure her away. It worked and they were back on the eggs in no time.

Good for you, catwoman, for capturing that episode of Polly coming into the nest box. Well, I'm glad to know she is okay and that she didn't damage the eggs. I would have had a heart attack if I'd been watching! :o

I didn't want to watch, but I knew if I didn't, I wasn't going to know how she reacted. As it turned out, it appears that she was just curious!

It appears that Spirit & Roger did the right thing by leaving & not trying to force her from the box. If they had, some eggs could have gotten damaged!

Polly was just in the box. I didn't see the beginning of the episode, but this one didn't seem too bad. In fact, I think it was Roger in the box at the end when Polly left. I thought for a minute that she was going to try to incubate the eggs!

Yes she is a problem...! I wish there was something I can do but I'm afraid we'll have to let the parents deal with it. Today the eggs were unattended for about 1 hour, I think it's almost impossible that there won't be any damage from that. The only positive is that it was about 23ºC here today so maybe they did not cool down too much. At last Spirit kicked her out of there.
Here's the video from today :

And here's a photo I took this morning during a nest exchange :

WOW Wizzzz....that is unbelievable at the end! I can't believe she was being so defiant, and standing on top of the eggs. She is obviously willing to get aggressive with them. I wonder if the parents will get more aggressive. I hope so!! YIKES!!

I feel bad for all 3 of them, but this just isn't going to work unless they find a way to make Polly stay out of the box. :-(

Thanks for your support, it helps to know other people care.... I was devastated this afternoon when I saw Polly and the eggs unattended...
By the way I don't know if you saw but I added a photo archive section yesterday (small link below the "PHOTOS" title) - here's the direct link : - it keeps a photo every 10 minutes, useful to see what happened during the day.

Well Wizzz, I much as I feel forPolly, they are going to have to chase her off. I would not worry about the eggs, thus far. An hour is O.K. at early incubation. And with Polly in box at least there was some body heat as a matter of fact it was probably not as bad as you think with the heat.

We all love our peregrines but It is time for Polly to get out on her own. can she hunt?? I forget what was said about that.
I will check your archive later. My hubby needs some company.

Thanks bev.!
Yes she can hunt. In fact I saw her chase a gull yesterday... And she came back to the tower often on her own with a full crop. For sure she was able to provide for herself during the 4 days I didn't see her! She's just being difficult and she likes that box!!!! I hope Spirit will chase her away.

Thanks for the archive section, Wizzz & I forgot to tell you that the pic you posted yesterday of the nest exchange was great. I'm always surprised when I see falcons "jumping" off a surface cause I always picture them as "flying" off a surface!

Wizzz, excellent video involving Polly and action shot of the shift change. Poor Polly must be so confused as she's been used to coming to the box and staying as long as she wants. Now, she is being chased off. Undoubtedly, her hormones are not at a place where she cares one diddly squat about those eggs. Thankfully, Spirit's instinct for the preservation of her eggs is outweighing her connection with Polly.

This situation is going to be one for the Record Books! Can't wait to see how Mother Nature decides to handle it.
