Great report, Jane! Wondering if anyone has seen a juvie make an effort to capture prey? Nobody is home tonight.

I would imagine that the juvies are at least TRYING to catch prey at this point, but probably still dependent on the adults. It has been harder and harder to find them at night as they are starting to be quite independent.

Thanks, Jane and loza. There is a juvie on the ledge near the stick that I think may be Red! Crying at intervals. She left at 5:15, I did not see her leave, but heard her leave as her cries came more and more distant.

I didn't see any falcons via the cam yesterday or so far today. I did see some pictures elsewhere of Niecey up on the ledge around noon yesterday. Today is to be a real scorcher.

Have been unable to find anyone home so far today. From Falcon Wire News on the 25th:

6/25/2019 :: What Does July Hold for the Falcons?
As all the young peregrine falcons have been flying regularly for the past two weeks, what can be anticipated in the coming weeks? The answer is simple: Practice, practice, practice. As the young falcons continue to hone their flying skills, they can be observed soaring, perching, and swooping around Market Street in Harrisburg. This is the period when the falcons are also learning to take prey on their own. As both skills improve, the young will be preparing to disperse in late summer. At this point, this is the period the Motus transmitters should prove their value. It will be both enlightening and interesting to see where these birds will venture. Previous offspring ended up in other regions of Pennsylvania, into Ohio, and in other surrounding states. Time will tell where these birds go!

Just saw one of the adults on the point finishing off some prey. Didn't see it soon enough to be able to tell which one, and then it flew off.

:flirty: Niecey on the stick and Lil Dad in the nest!! After a few minutes, Lil Dad goes to the front shield. He is bowing to Niecey and she is talking to him. Then he is back in the nest and preening. At 6:18, he hops up to the back shield and bows causing Niecey to talk to him. At 6:25, a juvie flies in flushing Niecey off the stick and landing on the front shield causing Lil Dad to make his quick exit. It is crying for food I guess. After a couple minutes it flies to the stick and it does have an antenna. Then it goes to the ledge this side of the stick. I am assuming this is Red. And gone by 6:34.

Heard juvies arrive. Went in and found 2 of them on the ledge near the column with their backs to us in a tug-of-war over concealed prey. Then, without letting go of their opposing grips of the prey, 1 of them tried to leave and it dragged it's sibling over the ledge and straight down and out of sight! Hoping 1 of them finally let go and they landed or flew safely.

Just now saw a falcon flying down Market toward the U and another flew from somewhere above the nest ledge and downward and followed the previous falcon. Both landed on the U roof and are on the edge facing us.

The cams are back, but I do not see any falcons spending the night.

Those are some great observations, SWINWK. I read a post on Facebook yesterday that someone saw a juvie in the area of the Market Street Bridge that crosses the Susquehanna, about four blocks from the Carson Building. The juvie eventually landed on one of the light poles on the bridge. I don't personally know the person that posted that info, so don't know if it was a falcon or perhaps as Red-tail.

Two juvies are home! One on the front shield and one at the door of the nest. The one at the door went to the fat part of the stick and cast a pellet. Then it runs around playing and to the point screaming. The one on the shield left at some point, but I did not see it leave. At 4:56, the one on the point ledge flew after almost constant screaming. It was facing the side street and flew to the left. I never saw an antenna, but with all the screaming, I couldn't help but wonder if it was Red.

Haven't seen any activity on the ledge all day. Sounds like some nasty storms are headed our way.

Thanks you all! Niecey is taking her respite on the front shield right now.

Thank you SO MUCH for those pictures, Terka. I did manage to find Niecey on the shield a bit ago, but she's gone now. I can hear some distant thunder right now.
