This occurred to me a couple of hours ago, & I still don't see her, so I wonder if Jane went to Wilmington today to check things out and see if this new male lives up to the standards we've set for Red?

Yes. In light of that and Kim's quote of Anthony's pessimism on renesting, maybe the best scenario is that one or more eggs hatch and the new male moves in and "adopts" the chicks.

She's still on the eggs - almost an hour now.

Well, I guess , it is just a wait and see.
What will be ,will be I guess.

Greg - That sounds like the best scenario to me also. I'm still hoping that we'll have at least one healthy chick hatch by Saturday.

Great news on the hopeful siting of a new male! I sure hope this all works out. Eggs seem to be hatching a little on the late side this year because of the cold, so maybe?? In case it hasn't been mentioned, the Richmond pair had two failed attempts last year at alternative nest locations before returning to the box. They laid their eggs in May, which was very late here, and they hatched successfully. They probably failed in the first 14 days both times though. I had not heard that before...very interesting.

Great news Kim & Greg. Thanks for all who posted today. So much to read. So, did Jane come down to witness? Interesting!!! I have bells tonight,darn. Can't wait for the next chapter in this wonderful capture of nature. GO RED GIRL !!!!! We'll be prayin' for ya!! Be checking in later.

I haven't given up all hope on these eggs yet! Also, I just spoke with Anthony who had talked to Craig and Craig said it's not out of the question that these two have their own brood! If they get together as a pair that is. :)
