I have been watching since sun-up and I noticed that shell in the last little while. I am not sure where it came from, but one of the eggs looked like it was crushed earlier. I don't think there was another hatch because I only see 3 at this time, but she sure acted like she had to keep the eyases warm (more than she has in the past few days) a little while ago. I do only see one egg there, but I'm also not sure that the other egg isn't in between the eyases.

By the way, is there an infrared camera up there now? I could see the falcons very clearly before sun-up....

I'm thinking it broke and the yellowing means it was not viable :think :?

I'M THINKING THE SAME THING BECAUSE I ONLY SAW 3 CHICKS TOO AND THE EGG SHOULDN'T BE YELLOWED INSIDE LIKE THAT :-(

MOM LEFT THE SCRAPE CALLING OUT. I THINK SHE'S WAITING FOR LIL DAD TO BRING SOME FOOD AND HE'S TAKING TOO LONG. WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO COUNT HEADS WHEN THEY ARE FED IF MOM DOESN'T BLOCK THE VIEW :-)

YEP, STILL ONLY 3 THERE AND THAT WAS THE VERY LIGHT COLORED EGG THAT BROKE, SO PROBABLY WASN'T ANY GOOD TO BEGIN WITH.

I was thinking the same thing about the yellow. Well Reenie we don't have to worry about that egg anymore. Enough to be concerned with, right.I don't ever remember that happening before???

They do have 3 very healthy ones though :loveshow: . Not to sound all whatever, but it's been odd this year with the number of unhatched eggs at different sites...I wonder if the up and down spring weather temps had anything to do with it.

IT DOES SEEM LIKE THE TEMP HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT. THEY WERE WAY UP AND DOWN!

It's still that way here in NY...we were around 80 on Wednesday and Sunday is only supposed to be 50, with the possibility of wet snow!

I don't really think the weather has too much to do with it. It may be the age of this pair. I also believe that the availability of food is a factor. However, usually, the food factor causes them not to lay as many eggs.

I would think the weather too, along with the timing of the laying and sitting. It is 54 degrees in Wilmington, right now.

I thought the one egg looked a bit oddly shaped or sort of crushed in someone's picture last night when I caught up on the posts from later in the day. I guess I'm not surprised now to see this morning that it was not a viable egg. We have had a strange weather pattern this year, so it could be why. Maybe that was the first egg and wasn't quite "ready"? Just a guess on my part. On the bright side, we have three really sweet baby falcons here!

That's not like this pair to only have only 3 hatch.

I suppose a non-viable egg could be caused by a number of things, and hope the last one will go ahead and hatch - SOON. Mom and Dad will have a much easier job fledging 3 than 5, so maybe this is Nature's way of limiting the number in some way. It sure isn't a factor of the number of times they canoodled! The frequency of that really impresses me. Gotta go check on Red Girl, then breakfast and some errands. At least I don't have to worry about missing a fledge this morning!
