What a great day for you Eve! Spirit is one fiesty mom! And back in that box immediately. I guess dealing with Polly makes her even more protective. It was really fun getting to see all the play to play too. I know you have explained it before, but why is it that you wear all the protective clothing? I've never seen that before at a banding.

Great pictures, Wizzz! And I agree - the chicks looked darling in their little buckets.

Was that you in the pictures doing the collecting and banding of the chicks?

Yes that's me in the photos ! :-)

here I am, all red and sweaty because it was so hot in the suit!!!

I captured the chicks and I put them back in the box, I was also holding them while our bander was doing his job :-)

it's a great experience!!

The protective gear is because there is asbestos in the tower at the nest level, so we have to wear a full face mask, a Tyvek suit and boots... I think we should wear gloves as well but frankly to capture the babies it's much better without! The asbestos danger is not that great but the university has to follow the rules, last year we did not wear it and some people were not happy. So let's follow the rules!!

The band numbers are 77/K - EVE and 78/E - HORUS

Hey did you notice I managed to clean the dirty camera too :-)

I was glad to see it was on the outside and not inside the lens...

Ditto for me! You look so happy in all the pictures, Eve. Capturing the chicks, holding them in your hands while they're being banded, and delivering them back home to their nest box sounds like quite the wonderful experience. I'm so glad you were there!

I just had a thought about Polly. I've heard that parents no longer recognize their juvies after they've been gone a few days. Maybe Polly has tried to come around & hasn't been allowed cause her parents no longer recognize her?

I guess it's possible! I wish she would come back so I can see how Spirit and Roger would react... maybe she did but I'm not watching 24-7 unfortunately :-)

I really do wish Polly would show up...I'm wondering if she has found a male to hang out with. And if that is true, you know how that goes~forget the parents!!!

Thanks for sharing all those great photos, Eve. Gosh, those suits must have been SO hot, but better to be safe. One interesting thing I noted was how pale the feet are on the chicks . . . and just how darned cute they are!

i will pot picutres later. I jsut saw a feeding,or part of one and adult was eating more than feeding. but chicks were not complicating so they must be fill.

Oh, my--well, it looks like they have plenty of room to run up there. What is surprising is that I don't see Spirit perched outside the box. She is usually there.

Spirit must be right beside, look at this photo from last year, I'm sure it's the same right now :

But with the new ramps to help them go in and out the box, I am less worried that they could fall like it happened last year :
