Eve, thank you so much for the updates on Horus and Little Eve. Sounds as if Horus is flying really well already. It's good that you were able to rescue him, even if he did decide to bite you!

I hope to hear better news about Little Eve soon. If there is no blockage, I wonder if she might have a crop infection. Whatever the problem turns out to be, I hope she will soon be well again.

Hi ! Still no news on Eve - but Horus just flew back to the nestbox, where mom rewarded him with food...

Looking at Wizzz's picture, it amazes me how much smaller Horus is than Spirit!

Thanks for letting us know there is no news on Eve, Wizzz. Am praying that she makes a full recovery!

I am so sorry, Wizzz. I know this will be a hard time. WE are very grateful that you have shared this site with us, and we look forward to continued news of Horus. And maybe Polly will come by to visit.

Eve I am so very, very sorry to hear about little Eve...To watch a life from the very beginning, then to lose this precious girl is difficult..even more so for you and others close to this family...I'm glad you intervened and at least she was in good hands..I'm sure her passing was peaceful..

Let us know how you're doing when you can..

Dear Eve, we are so sad for the loss of little Eve. I have been lurking here since I hear of the Polly incident. I thought I could at least translate your post on your blog to save you that... Here it is:

Here's the email I just received from Guy Fitzgerald UQROP:

Hello Eve

Bad news. The falcon has steadily deteriorated since she was admitted despite treatment (fluids, antibiotics, antifungals). Radiography, endoscopy, biochemistry, hematology, cytology and oral endoscopy did not lead to a diagnosis. She has just now died and I have submitted her for necropsy to know what happened. I'll give more details of the results next week.

We have tried to help ... "

How sad ... My name did not bring any luck!

I talked to him later on the phone and it appears that she was suffering from a virus or bacterial infection, we'll know more later after the analysis. Her liver, her spleen and lungs were infected, and the antibiotics she received after her admission did not give results ...

A falcon's life is so tough! At least our Horus is doing well.

Eve - This is such heartbreaking news to hear that Little Eve couldn't be saved despite all the heroic measures taken by you and everyone else. I'll always remember that sweet photo of you with Little Eve at the banding.

She tried to entice him off the perch..(if this is indeed Horus)

But it didn't immediately work..he's to the side of the box now...I think

Thanks a lot for your nice words. I am very sad about little Eve of course, but like you said at least my instincts were right and I did the right thing by taking her to the vets. It was quite a shock to learn that she died, I was hopeful to bring her back with her family. I'm sorry I couldn't write sooner, I have been taken with family issues as well. The people that treated her are just wonderful, I sent them a donation today. Check out their website :

They will keep me her bands, I will put them on my binocular strap in her memory.

Little Horus seems to be doing well, at least we saved one baby this year! Falcon life is not easy...

My eyes are burning with tears as I read these posts of the news of little Eve. We will miss her so much. Hugs to you, Wizzz, and thank you for following your instinct and getting little Eve to the vet. You gave her every chance possible.

Very sad about the little falcon's death, but grateful that she was given treatment, that a strong effort was made to save a precious life.
I read a lot of other bad news as well today, very depressing. Have to tell myself to focus on the young and parents that DO make it and are healthy and successful . . .
Very hard on a day like this. :cry:

Eve, I'm so sorry you lost little Eve. It is a tough life for falcons, even with the best care at hand. Horus will get lots of attention now!

Eve, I am so very sorry about the loss of Little Eve. She was such a beautiful little juvie, and you did everything you possibly could to help her. I was so much hoping that she would be able to recover. :cry:

You have done so much for this very special falcon family. I hope Horus will continue to do well and fly safely.
