Looks like they are taking turns in the box. Maybe, it is Victory and they are arguing over who the nest belongs to. :-)

This picture from SGB's video. The band does look solid black, but sometimes looks are deceiving. It would be better if the cam was clean. Now FF has crashed, but back.

Hard to say...according to the North American Banding protocol, Black is given to Anatum Peregrines..(whatever that means)

I've seen a lot of Canadian falcons with a solid black...guess it won't mean very much until we get band #'s. We're not even sure its solid black...

Peregrines in SF and SJ are Anatum and VID banded black alpha-numeric and the silver (not sure if it's fish and game, US wildlife..it's escaping me right now).

We had a female:

Spirit from SJ, 2007 = left leg, 12Z

Wouldn't that be interesting if someone traveled that far east?

It would be--especially with the name of Spirit!

Background on Victory...Rhodes State Office Tower

She was released 8/22/08

Aug. 2008 -From Donna's blog:
I’m happy to report that after almost 2 years in captivity that today, Victory was released back to the wild!

For review: Victory was hatched in Toledo in 2002, and showed up in Columbus in 2003. She bonded with the resident male at that time, Bandit, but no eggs were produced likely due to her young age. By nesting season 2004, Bandit had been replaced by Orville. Victory and Orville claimed the downtown Columbus territory but again, no eggs were produced. In 2005, her first successful nesting attempt yielded 2 young and in 2006, Victory and Orville successfully raised 4 young. Around Labor Day, 2006, Victory was found with an injured wing from an unknown cause.

could be I'm mistaken...doesn't Victory have a "disease" wherein she has trouble with molting. keeps doing it? if it's Victory...could that be the reason she looks a bit scruffy? :confusedsun:

Looked up online: The Anatum Peregrine is intermediate in terms of color and size. It has a salmon or peach-tinged breast, with stronger barring across the breast than the Tundra subspecies. The back is slightly darker than in the Tundra Peregrine, but still has bluish-gray tinges, especially on the upperwing coverts and uppertail coverts. The moustache on the Anatum Peregrine is very wide, and the auricular patch is often very small. Immatures have a solid brown crown and forehead, and have a fairly wide moustache, although their auricular patch is often larger than that of adults. They have heavy brown streaks on their cream colored breast and belly, and have small buffy edges to the feathers on their back.

Thanks for that great info, Anna...and Welcome to our forum Tamarack

If by some chance it is Victory, would her band be black/green?

We just need for her to go stand in front of the ledge cam when the light is really good...

AND...we need to hear/see Spirit!!!

Here's my theory...since we heard Spirit in the late afternoon yesterday, Trooper didn't cross paths with this female until last night or this morning...

we need a watcher on the ground!!!

Thanks Anna for the info.

I'm not sure if we are sure the band is really all black. In fact, I thought I saw green and black at some point, not sure if it was on the video or just when I was looking at her in the box, but later, looking at the pictures and video, it did look just black. :confusedsun:

Well, that would be the wildest turn of events ever, but it's been a roller coaster ride so far so I really wouldn't be surprised at anything anymore.
