Found online: Most of the southern Canadian breeding populations are of the anatum subspecies (F.p. anatum), which is a Canadian endangered species.

Victory...

"Her troubles were not limited to a fractured wing. While at OWC, Victory exhibited a condition called “permamolt,” which can be caused by a disease usually found in falcons and parrots. These birds have a continuous molt, meaning that as soon as their new feathers grow in for the year they molt some of them. New feathers growing in this way are weaker and thinner than the first molt feathers.

“It was evident that Victory had never molted some of her original juvenile feathers at all, and had re-molted two and three times some of her important flight feathers,” explained Ray.

WOW...fascinating..I didn't know that...Thanks Tamarack...

If it does turn out to be a solid black band, then it can't be Victory...the cam makes it so hard to tell...for all I know, its chartreuse :smilesun:

Hello Everyone - Wow - another female? Well, I was downtown at around 4:30i8sh - right when I got there, I thought for sure I saw someone fly onto the building on the ledge probably left of the ledge - it was like a flash - I saw it at an angle - and then when I tried to get a straight on view - I did not see anything else. I walked around and scanned the sky but nothing so I'm sorry. What you probably meant to say was, we need someone on the ground that can see - lol!

I walked around the Rife Center, however, I did not see anyone on either that building or other places that I have seen the juvies in the past.

That is indeed very interesting information about Victory - it is a wonder with this problem that she has that they would release her back into the wild.

I was downtown this morning trying to spot any of them. Didn't see a thing. I need a pair of binoculars before I go again. It was around 10 a.m. Got too hot for me.

I would love to see Spirit too SGB. But she does keep turning up, here and there ok, and growing stronger every day, but it will be some time before she is independent. Not even close yet, so I hope Trooper is caring for her when he's not courting the new female.

I wish I could have stayed as long as it took to spot Spirit!! You are right, I wish we had lots of people looking!! While I was waiting to cross Broad Street, a man asked me what I was taking pictures so I told him that I was looking for the peregrine falcons - I was hoping he had seen them but he just wished me good luck to find them. I don't understand why she has not come to the ledge like most of the other juvies end up doing.

Anna, did I see that you were downtown this morning?: That's great - so you live close? Perhaps we can look together?

Victory back ? ? ? Hmmmmm, now thát would be a weird turn of events! Thanks everybody for the reports. Especially the ones from Anna and Rosekk. That is what is needed most now, eyes-on-the-ground.
I never understood why the ODNR / Donna never have organised a fledge watch or at least helped others to get something going.
They apparently also failed in educating/informing the owners/users/workers of the neighbouring buildings in how to handle when the Falcon young have fledged. :-(

Rose - I'm just east of downtown, just east of Bexley in Eastmoor off of Broad Street. It only takes me 10 minutes or less to drive down there. Yes, I would love to watch with you. I have to stay in the shade most of the time but I noticed there are quite a few shaded areas that have excellent views of the tops of the highrises. I work in the Arena District. It also breaks your neck looking up so high, doesn't it. haha

This is great, Anna, let's meet if we can - what time do you get off work? I work at the Ohio State University until 4:30; maybe together we can find Spirit!! :dancinggirls:
