Were humans gaining access and stealing the eggs in past years?
It is sad to read of the nest's failure this year. :-(

That's exciting news, Carly, that the falcon's nest with three fledglings has been found. I hope they'll get some volunteers for the fledge watch to keep tabs on the fledglings.

Wow, carly! This really is exciting! Glad to hear that the fledgling is okay and that they now have the nest located. Your volunteers there are really great.

Is my Google Maps research correct in that Yonge & Eglinton is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) north of downtown Toronto?

How exciting, Carly & that's for sharing the news with us! I think its great that people care enough to get a fledge watch set up even though the nest was just discovered! :clapegg:

thanks CArly. I know earlier they thought the male might be Windwhistler. that would be cool.

WOW...that is so interesting, Carly. Any idea why they feel it wasn't fertilized? Wouldn't it be something if the new egg hatched?

I must say, that we all know this can happen but I am really dreading my watch this year.

this year has taken its toll on my spirits.

That must have been devastating for the watchers to lose one of the Y&E fledglings. Thank goodness they were there to save the second one.

Carly: Magee, a tiercel of Indianapolis (hatched 2008), had an injury to his right wing, was rehabbed and released April 2009. His bands on left leg are black/green . . . right leg has a purple band, but sometimes looks darker in photos.

Edit: Magee's band numbers: E/87. He's named after John Gillespie Magee, an American fighter pilot who volunteered for the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941.

Wow--wouldn't it be something if it was Magee! :clapegg:

Carly, are there any pictures of this tiercel? I'm asking because if it is two years old or less, you can tell their age by their coloring. One-year-olds still have their streaks & two-year-olds you can tell by their color because they don't have the dark colors of a fully-adult falcon. They still have the beige coloring.
