I am so far behind here, and will not be able to catch up for a few weeks. Peter and I are going away tomorrow for some R and R. but I will give a report of both sites and try and add some photos later if I can.

WEber

As you know I spent all day last Thursday at the site because Miss Edmonton was missing. She finally turned up at night. but we were not sure it was her. It had been so wet and cold that it was hard to tell.

Sept 9-
I watched all day in the cold and our youngster called for food whenever he was around. But he did give me many laughs. He went from rooftop to rooftop looking for leftovers. At one roof he encountered a mob of magpies that tried to best him. they chased him off very low to ground , so I held my breath. :o But what a trooper he circled back and went back to that roof and then he chased the magpies. He tried to stoop them   .Then he tried stooping pigeons and gulls all the rest of the day. He sure tried. He flew off west and east at times so I do not know if he got any food. The whole time the male adult just stayed on the Weber. First one side then the other. I t rained off and on all day
At one time the youngster flew off satellite dish he was on and soared out west of Weber. I noticed there was another falcon there .They soared and dipped and then both came in ,one chasing the other. Lots of cacking by youngster
One knocked the male adult off W of building. I could not keep up. Everything happens so fast. Lots of flying by all 3.Could not tell if it was aggression or not. Looked like some and very noisy.I went around to east side and there were 2 up on roof on aerials. I could not tell who was cacking. Smaller one flew off and bigger one stayed for a bit and then quietly soared off around building and then out. I think one was a juvenile from another site.
The male adult on the W flew off after about a half hour.(lots of strange things this year)

Later in afternoon, a falcon (I think adult female) , flew onto big round satellite on Weber roof . Kid was across road on satellite dish and started cacking. then he went to Ramada facing WEst and was cacking.

Male adult flies in and the adult on SAtellite went up to nest box. . then female adult flies and perches on south side of roof. Male flies up to roof ledge by box and kid comes flying in, cacking and knocks him off,and we loose sight of kid. (Peter has joined me now.) So we have 2 adults in sight and have to leave for an hour. When we came back no one in sight.
It was getting dark and finally we saw a falocn on west of Weber and then it flew to n facing east (we think the kid)
It flew off and we spotted it on south side of Centre 104 on the E . It was pouring rain and dark and with no sign of adults we left. Needless to say I was worried. Not knowing if it was our female.( Remember we had a subadult female in on the weekend) With the weather so miserable she was probably holed up somewhere all day.

WEber centre Sept 10

4pm- came down to site and adult female was eating up by box. She seemed very hungry. Very big piece of prey. It started to rain and she flew to W facing East, with rest of prey.
We know it is Miss Edmonton becasue for some reason (I must ask Gord) her dark number band is on right leg and this one had dark letter band on right leg. Female from other day had it on left leg. Our dark number bands are always on left leg.

4:50pm- youngster came in on ledge on Ne side

- male adult came in after rain also
this is when it got weird again . Male catwalked down to female and tried to get food(we think) . Then he would fly off all around her and at her. We have more video.

Then female flew off west with prey ,with male after her(a squeal like other day). Youngster gave chase also. We saw female come back to east side on antennae of roof so we went up to parkade.
Male adult was above us on ledge, looking west. and we looked over and there was youngster ,on another roof eating the prey. Yes , he was getting fed still.

We left feeling a bit better

video of male and female. click on picture(I apologize for the stalls . I guess file too big. you can see adult male fly at female and then come back) I was making sure it was still our male. It was.
We could not figure this out and I will have to talk to Gord about it.

Thanks for all your reports and beautiful pictures, Bev! I'm always in awe of how you (and Peter, of course) can keep track of all the falcons there - and ID them and snap their pictures at the same time - in some pretty cold, rainy, and generally miserable weather. Bravo to you both!

WEber

I will not have time to download other picutres till I get back . but I will summarize now from Sept 10 to last night Sept 15.

We have still had falcons flying by. Male adult ushered 2 out the other day. I hope our youngster is hunting now. He is over 3 weeks behind university falcons.

Last night was quite funny.
Youngster flew up to roof and there appeared to be a carcass up there. He seemed to be getting some good bites from it. The feathers kept ending up in his mouth. It was very cold and windy last night and he eventually went up onto nest box and just looked out. NO sign of adults.

Youngster eventually flew off. 2 hours after we arrived adult female (miss Edmonton) flew in and up on aerial by nest box. She then flew off and went on aerial on west side of roof. The youngster came flying in cacking and chased her off and the youngster perched on R of Weber facing west.

Low and behold, in comes female adult down back alley with prey in her talons. She is quite low. Youngster flies off R and chases her. Just as the Miss Edmonton drops prey to kid, and kid goes to grab it, the prey flies off  (Yes, it was still alive)  The youngster was some upset and ended up low on a wire in alley west of Weber. We stayed there to make sure he was O./K. (Gord told to us to watch for the wires) . We got a good laugh here. Poor Peter was trying to video it and battery went dead :P The youngster then flew off south.
We went around to east side and adult female was on aerial above nest box and youngster was way south on a round satellite dish

Miss Edmonton looked up and started chupping. She flew around Weber and then went up to box. Next thing ,off she went ,and started soaring south. We see another falcon up in sky and it dove down suddenly and flew onto Weber sign facing east. It was finally the adult male making an appearance. I kept watching the sky for mom and noticed we now have 2 falcons up there , mom and another female(by size) They soar fast to the south and then soar fast to the north and we lost sight, in the clouds. Poor mom. Dad I think attracts too many females in his travels.

I had to leave for a few moments  and of course when I came back everything is happening and Peter is not sure what. He figures female came back and kid knocked someone off perch and was chased, or another juvenile came in. dad flew off and we do not know who is there. It was dark out and very confusing.
One thing for sure. this site has given us heart attacks galore.

When we left the kid was still cacking(he lost his supper) . He was on E of center and an adult was on R of WEber. We do not know who. I just hope Miss Edmonton made it back. I will probably not have time to check .

When I get back the youngster will have migrated and the adult male will have migrated ,but Miss Edmonton should still be there (God willing she is O.K.)
I find this a very difficult time of year. When they migrate, you never know if you will ever see them again.
I will post some slide shows of a mixture of pictures of Red deer youngster and our youngster

Clincial scienceCam site

I bet you thought I had forgotten my foremost site. Not a chance. We have been monitoring here as well. Most of action was happening at Weber but I could never forget, Radisson and male adult and Blue and Red.
It has been a rough year here with the loss of Damon and a juvenille and a rescue and release . But these guys have given us a lot of fun and joy.

LAst Tuesday :
Blue and Red were still around. One got food from one of the adults on education building. I think the male adult delivered the food . the kid ate like there was no tomorrow.
Mom was on the netting by nest box when we arrived. Dad came in chupping a bit later and flew around and then perched on aerial of Suite Hotel.. A youngster ,who we think was Red, came in also and landed on ledge of Windsor building. this is the youngster that we eventually saw eating on education building.

We walked around the area and found a youngster on back of education building extension. I believe it was the one that had eaten. We think Red.
When it flew off it caked and another youngster (we think Blue)flew on cacking. Probably looking for left overs. (an adult flew on also)
When I looked around I saw it(blue) on an aerial cacking up a storm. It then flew south.
We kept walking and found one youngster on south side of Clincial science cacking like crazy. there was an adult up on west ,top ledge of college Plaza . We think this was Blue cacking. It was non stop. Brought tears to my eyes, After what seemed an eternity, the adult flew off around suite hotel with kid after it cking. the youngster flew around back of Newton still cacking and then the cacking stopped. There was no sign of anyone so we were hoping the kid was on roof eating somewhere.
When we left there was one adult on aerial of college Plaza and then it turned in for night. Do not know where others were.

pictures coming

edit to add slideshow part 1

Image

slideshow part 2 :we were never quite sure that night which kid was which because of lighting, but we know we saw 2

When we got there, one falcon was on crane on south of campus.
but when we were driving to Weber we saw one youngster on back of Ed building.
Then a falcon, flies from West by crane, to East ,past Newton apartments. so now we have 2

Now one on crane disappears and there is one on aerial of Windsor apartments. . I t flies around and then goes back to aerial. Then it flies off south. Peter said it was as if it was saying good-bye.

Then we see one fly in over Windsor and perch on ledge of Windsor facing East(could this be one that flew off???)

We drive around as it is very cold and dark.

We see a juvenille on crane by Jubilee auditorium. Can see better with binoculars that camera.

Adult male (by size) flies in and starts calling . Not chupping so we know there is an intruder somewhere, by the sound. It dive bombs the end of the crane where a screened box is. Peter walks over that way ,while I watch the youngster. The adult continues , making noise and flying around and dive bombing.
Peter sees a Raven in the box, at end of crane. :o that explains everything. It must have been bothering the kid.

adult male then lands on crane to left of youngster.
After a bit they both fly south west behind cranes. Adult comes back and lands on crane. Raven eventually leaves. and then adult flies off.

I must say ,we never have dull moments. :-) :-)

Sept 14 clinical science building.

This is my last visit here till after my get away. Once again , I did shed a few tears that night. so many highs and lows and I am used to being here to say good bye to them all. the kids and the adult male will be gone when I get back but Radisson should still be here unless she gets scared off by the predicited snow for the weekend

When we arrived at 5:30pm one falcon was on the crane out beyond clinical science. We know now it was Radisson.
We walked around and when we came back we heard cacking. I looked up and there was a youngster and the male adult on a ledge on college Plaza. We never were quite sure who it was. Peter felt it was Blue. I am not sure. I tried to look at size difference, but with it being such a dismal day , lighting was poor. and the youngster would not let us look at its leg.

Dad had some prey and was not sharing with the kid. Maybe the kid had eaten earlier. The youngster continued to cack but did not rush dad for food. This tells me ,it had eaten. Dad continued to defeather and have some bites.

Then dad flew off ledge and landed on north side of Extension building. Youngster never bothered to follow. RAdisson then flew in from crane to Extension building and she proceeded to eat while adult male watched. When she was done it was adult males turn. All this time youngster cacks off and on.

The adult male flies off over heart building and perches on east side of Medical science building.

The youngster flies off and goes over heart and flies over by the adult male and they fly around. We see he or she has a good crop.
Radisson stays put and she eventually flies off and we think she turned in on ledge of Windsor.

When we leave at dark, there is one falcon on top north ledge of Windsor and one falocn 3 down . we think the one 3 down was a kid.

We saw 3 that night and so I bid my farewells.

When I come back I will go and see if Radisson is there.

I will also go back and post pictures that have not been seen yet. there are some good ones.
and then I will do a summary of year.

I find this time of year empty.

Here are some shots from tonights report

Bev...you really got some great pics and I just loved your accounts of your visits...I caught myself tearing up, knowing that your pics will probably be the last we'll see of the kids...so little ones, stay safe, soar high and do what your parents have taught you...hope we hear you all have families somewhere in the near future!!!!

I am finally getting caught up here, and OH MY :o I cannot believe the soap opera going on at the Weber building! It is amazing all the floater falcons around. This is good to hear generally for the species, but it must be a constant battle for the resident pair that we love. Funny that Blue was over there looking for a meal.

Miss Edmonton is a strong girl, so I feel she is okay. Sighting her would be so much better though.

bev & Peter, you did great with all your pics and videos and play-by-play commentary. Hope you are enjoying your much deserved get-away.

Well, i am back. got back Sunday night and of course I checked my birds. all youngsters appear to be gone.

I had 2 texts form friends while I was away and on Sept21 there was still one youngster at Clinical science, cacking away. And on Sept 24, Young Mr. Weber was still there. so I do not know when they left .

this , as some of you know this is a bittersweet time for me. I get very emotional as we never know who will be back from migration. I like to see them off and bid them well.

WEber

I hope young Mr. Weber was hunting by himself before he left. He was 3 weeks younger than the ones at clinical science. but I trust Miss Edmonton . She is a great mom. I am so glad she had a successful year this year.

As of Oct 4 both Miss Edmonton and her mate were still there, that is last night. On Sunday night we jsut saw her .
Last night when we got there, Miss Edmonton was perched on the middle of the W on the south east side. then we heard her chup and she went up to nest box. I looked around and in cam the male adult. (I was so surprised to still see him there. Typically the males leave a week before the females . They are usually gone by now. But things were late here so we learn something new every day.)
Miss Edmonton went into the box and when she came out she sat in front for a bit. then she flew around the back and came and perched on aerial on roof of Weber facing south east.
the male then turned on the R of Weber and faced the same direction. They look so relaxed. Nice to see. It has been a action packed , dramatic season

I will continue to monitor till they leave

clinical science.

As of Oct 4 we have only seen RAdisson. I had a report from Becky and she said the adult male was there for sure on Sept 29 and she has only seen Radisson since Oct 1. That sounds right on.
Similar to other years, but with a different male ,you never know.
Radison was on aerial of Windsor building when we arrived . She then went to ledge facing north, as if to turn in. Then I did not see her and when I turned around , she was on an aerial on south east corner of Clinical science. As Peter said. she does this at the end. she goes to all the places she has roosted. Like planting a memory in her head.
then she flew off strong and turned in for the night. I tried to get her flying but she was so quick, but strong. right over us, she flew. A lump was in my throat, and a few tears in my eyes.
We will keep coming till she is gone.
So so quiet now.

These are all Radisson. She looks so grand, sitting on top. sorry about quality of picutres. It was getting dark
