I downloaded my photos and if I put them up, some people may get quite disturbed. I'll make sure I put a warning and just put a link to photobucket. Then you don't have to look.

And here is the video of 00/AE's release. Please don't watch it if you will get upset.

Wow, quite an exciting day in JC! Thanks for the report and awesome photos!
I'm really surprised at mom's reaction to the release. I didn't think adults were aggressive with juvies, regardless of whether or not they are offspring. Hmmmm.... Anyway, sure glad to hear she was such a strong flyer. I'm sure she has been taught good hunting skills be the rehabbers. Hopefully she moves out toward the beaches now.

WOW...those were really great pics, Bonnie...I'm sorry Mom and Dad didn't provide a warmer "welcome home", but so happy to see that "their daughter" handled the situation so well. she was smart enough to hug the building and to "get out of dodge" when she realized the apron strings had been cut!!!

Thanks, Bonnie & Mike! I read that children recognize their parents, but I don't know about parents recognizing their children. But I have read a number of places that adults won't attack juvies. Maybe they would have veered off at the last minute if she hadn't protected herself. :-? I know of at least a couple of nests where the injured juvie wasn't released near the home nest if they'd been gone a while, because it wasn't known how the parents would react. Glad it looks like all is now calm & your girl got away safely!

Again, nj fish and wildlife has had success releasing rehabbed juveniles back into this area after a long absence. Just not this time. Maybe it was too late. Maybe she is too strong. Who knows. No news is good news. We are hoping for no news.

00 definately recognized her parents, she flew right to them after leaving the box, and she made that loud chirping sound throughout our time there as if ID'ing herself to her parents. I can see the reason for and against a release back home after such a long absence (putting the bird in an area it's already familiar with, so it can re-establish it's bearings and move on from there; but will the parents have turned off their "parent" switch by that point and now drive away any and all raptors from their territory?). I'm sure it's a tough call for those who have to make them (glad I don't have to!).

I'm also glad that I don't have to make those decisions, Mike!

Where is the location of the homestead in relation to Grove st? I was there this weekend and parked a few blocks from the path station by the statue of Black Jack Pershing but i didnt have time to go falcon stalking this time. I hope to get up there one of these days when the activity increases. Is it a long walk or is it relatively close by ?

The scrape is at 101 Hudson. It is right near the exchange place path station. The burds are in that area often, even now.

Ah ok, i went near the journal square station and hopped on at the grove st station but ill have to look at a path map to get some bearings so i can play seek and find next time up there. Hopped the path into 9th st in ny instead of paying to park for twice as much in nyc.

So that scrape is also on my list as well as the scrape closer to me in wilmington.

have cameras will travel :lol2:

Cool, hope to see you there one day! Yea if you are at the Path station at Exchange Place, 101 Hudson is across from the NJ Transit Light Rail station out by the street. The pier next to the Path station is one of our viewing areas, but we'll show you the others that view the scrape more directly (depending which corner you're on, you can see part of the nest box).
