I'm so sorry all this is happening, Carly, & I hope nobody gets seriously injured. I also hope that the chicks don't suffer.

My first thought was when I started reading your report is that Milton decided that Jack now has TR Mom so he was going to try to "make nice" with Angel, and if Jack is going to have trouble taking care of 2 nests, maybe that would be best (providing Angel approves).

I agree with you all that MNR shouldn't have released Milton right now, but since he has been released, I hope the 4 of them can figure this out peacefully--& yeah, I'm giving human characteristics to falcons.
:?

Thanks for your report, Carly--we've been waiting & hoping that everything was peaceful! Glad to hear it is. 10 degrees, brrrr! How dedicated you are to go out to check on the falcons in that kind of weather! Also glad to hear that Jack's injury doesn't sound serious!

Thanks Carly...Does Mathew have a hatch -guess- on his nestsite?

I just don't know how Jack can take care of two nests with Milton hanging around?

That's 10 celcius remember we're metric over here so tis 50 fahrenheit but either way with the wind and rain here it's cold.
It's a time will tell situation indeed so they released Milton over at Rattlesnake Point when and where would have been a good time or place to release him? How healthy was he a couple months back the weather wasn't the greatest then either and to keep him longer say after these young ones had matured? So it's one male and two nests this isn't natural either Milton has been given another chance hopefully things will work out. Now for where he was released is the same rock formation as where I live tis in The Niagara Escarpment. Any which direction he took and he would have been in another Falcons territory as there are lots of Peregrines nesting from Toronto Hamilton St.Catherines swing west London Guelph Kitchener Windsor. Every nest is a story in itself an I mean every nest there's a story to tell.
Thanks for your time and sharing with us Carly as it tis truly appreciated.

Thanks for sharing the comments of the biologists in charge of the release, carly. It's good to look at all the perspectives. Glad to hear things were calm today at your site. Let's hope for another one tomorrow . . . and the day after . . . etc.

Carly, thanks for that update and your explanation of Milton's release...since I'm not a rehabber or biologist, I defer to their judgement...as long as this release doesn't get him dead...then staying in rehab.....

glad it was much calmer today...I hope that means the gentlemen have come to an understanding and that Milton isn't injured (other than his pride, of course)...or that they are just resting up for round #2...

Can't wait to hear what BIGFRANK finds out about your nest...hope he got some great pics...I miss seeing that cam...

Take care and drink some hot tea...

I'm glad to hear everything was quiet today too. There is such an amazingly high number of falcons in your area it seems to cause many more conflicts than here where they are further apart. I guess that's the good and bad news about the success of falcons now. More and more there will be battles with smaller territories. It seems to me that Jack is going to have to start staying put once the chicks hatch. Its weird to me that he would be protecting two territories so aggressively, but these two are obviously familiar with each other. Frank has given you good information on rehabbing. Its important to release as soon as they are ready...especially raptors. We also try and release them where we found them, but only to give them an extra shot at success. Falcons can fly such incredible distances so fast, there is no where far enough that he couldn't get back home quickly anyway.

I have been waiting for news Carly.
I am glad Angel is being cared for.

Milton will probably be flying around looking for a space to spend the rest of season like Miss Edmonton did that year.
I hope he does.
But next season he may try one more time at his site. Miss Edmonton did.
Hopefully it will be peaceful now

And just my opinion: But the powers to be are going to look for ll kinds of excuses now ,why they released Milton ,when they did. Because they goofed . I am sure a few more weeks wold not have hurt Milton . Especially if he was not ready at start of season.
