Great job SBG. My vote is it's a "C".

Sorry ladies...I was gone all day. Just triaged a juvie broad-winged hawk that was carried on the grill of a truck across a county. No broken bones, and looks to be ok. Amazing!

SGB...you are the falcon whisperer, as always! Thanks so much for watching and catching the band. Shawn called me to confirm it is our boy from down the river. And so James legacy lives on! The right band is green anodized when you see it up close.

Nancy, you were so right! :toast Who would of thought (except you) that this is an offspring of James and Virginia?

All's good in the world of Virginia wildlife today! :rainbow

What an amazing story. You have to think that Sir James is gone, but his son has taken his place now, so that is fitting. The son is not young though, has he had a mate before and offspring?

Yesterday obxbarb mentioned that she thinks James' son was nesting on a grounded ship on the James River. There is a nest in a location called the James River Reserve Fleet which is a ship. In 2006, 07, 08 and 2009 the nest produced young (James Jr would be old enough during those years). I wonder if this is the ship Barb referred to. There were no eggs or young listed for 2010.

GOOD JOB TODAY rescuing the hawk obxbarb!!! A small miracle it wasn't seriously hurt.

Nancy, do all of the fairytales you weave come true?!?

If I thought they would, I'd weave more!

So happy to hear that this is James' son, although I wish James was still here.

Good job catching a good shot of that band, SGB!

Glad that the story of the hawk had a happy ending, Barb!

You're welcome, Mick.. :sfwand: Ya know, as I was searching for one I could use, it was such a walk down Memory Lane...there were so many tender pics with this years kids, I wish I could have used one of those...just not enough room up there. He was such a joy to watch!...and while we are so lucky to have his son here, its so bitter sweet...Sir James was definitely one of the Royalty of the PF world...and I will miss him...

I didn't even notice the header! Thanks sgb. I have hundreds of James pictures that are great. Fortunately he liked the camera :-) I guess I'll have to make a little collage. Still pretty sad for that.

Mick, you are right about the James River Fleet. I haven't seen Libby's 2010 report, but I think Shawn told me they nested there this year. So, either junior was booted, lost his mate, or is two timing (sure hope not!).

I'm so glad to have you posting these stories Carly. I have a hard time keeping track of all your Canadian nests, but they usually have most unusual situations that I wish I could keep track of! I have shared a few of your stories to biologists at CCB...they are sometimes so remarkable (like a female two-timer!).

You are right, that is fourth option, and it would be great to still have a pair on the ship!

I'd like to add my thanks to obxbarb's, Carly. I love your stories and they help to weave a broader understanding of atypical behavior.

Thanks for posting that Nancy. Shawn is reading the forum, and I have discussed the problems here with him. Any comments posted here on problems with the cam are appreciated from everyone. I'd like to get a handle on how many people are having issues. Also, I promised him I would explore web based options, so any thoughts there are appreciated as well. Nancy, I think you have mentioned problems with WildEarth? I think because of the ads its free, which is good, but not so good for watching...

Yes, I had problems with WildEarth, & according to their forum, so did many other people. Another one that is similar is Earthcam. I'll see what else I can come up with!

What about UStream...(is that the name?)

I think all of the Hancock/former Hancock eagle cams are now using WildEarth...which I personally haven't had problems with (knock on wood)...I'm starting to get used to the ads!!! (well, kind of..)

Here are some webcam hosts that are hosting other nests:

Earthcam - Waukegan, Wilmington

Ustream - Montreal, Maine, Rochester

SpectraAccess - New Hampshire
