Afternoon feed. Both appeared to have good crops...she only gave step dad a few bites...even though he was whining.

It was a rather large, banded prey item...I tried to figure out what, but no luck.

The two hatchlings are just over a week old. Here is the early morning feeding from May 20. It follows a puzzling but now familiar pattern: the eyases get fed for a few minutes, then the current two year old male joins the clutch and takes part in being fed. This male arrived after the eggs from the previous male were laid and he has took no part in incubation. Although he supplied some food to the female while she incubated he now seems to have stopped bring prey to the nest. She had a clutch of five eggs. Two pipped but did not hatch. One egg was not viable. The two hatched eyases seem to be fit and healthy.

Thanks David.
The young always have nice crops.
I think once youngsters get bigger, the young male will be out of the feeding chain

Thanks David for the video! Now I've seen everything! :egg14: I've seen the males take a bite or 2 when the chicks are being fed at other nests, but to sit there and act like he's one of the chicks... :egg11:

Today was a lot better
I saw 3 feeds, the male only at one of them
Edit to say.
No sooner speak and another feed and male is there. Will see if he eats and how much :girlcrazy:
But chicks are well fed
I do not expect him to do much with chicks.
Too late in the game , so to speak

I saw 2 really great feeds and big crops. All I had time to watch, but he gets spooked by kids if they approach him

Yesterday the male took part in a couple of feedings (not as feeder, but as feedee - hey, I like that word, feedee). Anyway, he didn't join the little ones until they had been feeding a while, and even then he didn't take any food until their crops were full.

I came across this clip I caught on Tuesday, the 21st. I guess that this prey is just some kind of fancy pigeon, but what do you think?

When the nest looks empty it is because the kids are tucked into a dark corner, usually at the bottom right or bottom left of the shelf. Also, there is a blind spot that the camera can't see - middle rear of the nest box which is at the bottom left on camera 1, bottom right on camera 2. Or, they might have gone to the movies ;-).

I have seen some evidence that Stewart is supplying some food. Her doesn't hand it off in the nest box, but may be doing so on a roof or taking it to a cache site. Maybe Bridget is doling out his share at the feedings (that part is conjecture)

Here are the kids in the nest box:
