:eggthumb: They are back in their corner, but one of the chicks is staying up late tonight! Niecey is atop the back wall.

I am really sad that I cannot get this cam this year...so, I won't be able to watch the banding today...If anybody is able to watch, could you please post the band numbers if they announce them.

Thanks.

Well, the grand event is over and I see 2 of the chicks in the nest and 1 well out from the nest box on the ledge. Niecey is kakking from atop the front wall and possibly 85 joining in, but do not see him or the 4th chick. Do they still have the 4th one, is it behind something on the ledge and not seen. I did see something in the still on the point cam when I first went in and hope to goodness that it was not the 4th chick, but 85 not in his usual spot! I hope nothing is wrong. I have been watching the cams since I started this post and they are quiet now. I know there are 2 male and 2 female chicks here from the banding that apparently started almost 40 minutes late that they did not bother to let those trying to get to the event know from their FB page.

:15heartbeat: Here is where the 4th chick is:

We apologize for the delay in the live banding event. As the falcons were being prepared for transport off the ledge for banding, it was discovered that one of the young falcons has trichomoniasis. This is a disease they get from eating pigeons, rock dove, which are a non-native species. That bird is currently on its way to Red Creek Wildlife Center for care.

thanks for the updates/pics...and I will check FB...

I sure hope with 1 chick having trich, that they treated the other 3 to be on the safe side.

:teehee: See the 3rd chick has made it back to the nest box and a parent is down in front of the "bad window" and giving it the evil eye!! I'm thinking Niecey, but they moved out to the edge of the ledge, then flew.

:dancegirl: I don't think they did as they said the other 3 looked healthy and there was no mention of treating them.

So there are 2 male chicks and 2 female chicks here with one of them away for treatment of trichomoniasis for now. One chick was immediately banded and placed back in the nest.

The bands are black/green and colored tape was placed on the right to temporarily be able to ID in the field.

Blue tape is a male, 02/BZ (b/g) and federal# 1126-08082, weight:660gms

Green tape is a female, 25/CA (b/g) and federal# 1947-47104, weight:920gms

...and forgive me...stupid not to treat the other 3...New Jersey pre treats ALL their chicks for Trich whether they have symptoms or not.

Link to Falcon Wire with all the banding info.

Proud of them for sharing this. There was a time in the past where we had to "secretly" get the banding data....no idea why!!

:10sum: We've got almost all of the stick view back now! Saw Niecey out on it, but she flew.

:sum5: As I incorrectly heard one of the band letters, I will go back and edit with the correct info above. This is the correct info from the "Falcon Wire" (although a little confusing if you are new to seeing bands as they added a BL before each slash, so when you see the actual band it will read 24/CA for Falcon 1, not 24 BL/CA and so on with the others):

Falcon 1:
Weight: 800 grams
Sex: Female
Band: 24 BL/CA (Black over Green)
Tape color: Red
A check-up indicated that this individual's keel was good but this bird was the one identified as having trichomoniasis.

Falcon 2:
Weight: 625 grams
Sex: Male
Band: 01 BL/BZ (Black over Green)
Tape color: Yellow
Check-up indicated a good keel with evidence of feather lice, with no sign of disease.

Falcon 3:
Weigh: 660 grams
Sex: Male
Band: 02 BL/BZ (Black over Green)
Tape color: Blue
This bird also had a good keel and exhibited some sign of lice, with no sign of disease.

Falcon 4:
Weight: 920
Sex: Female
Band: 25 BL/CA (Black over Green)
Tape color: Green
This bird featured a good keel and exhibited some sign of lice, with no sign of disease.

I am posting information about Red Creek for anyone who might wish to make a donation. They are wonderful caring people who have helped our falcons in the past. Red is in the best possible hands, and praying that she will recover. I do not know how advanced her case of trich is, but it is treatable if caught soon enough.

:15heartbeat: Blue, Yellow and Green are sleeping in their corner and Niecey is atop the front wall. Hoping that Red is comfortable and asleep at Red Creek Wildlife Center and she comes home to her falcon family and us in the near future.

:loveheart: Can see 1 chick just outside the back door and the other 2 are in the nest. Don't see Niecey or 85 at this time.

:15heartbeat: Heard some trailing kakking by one of the adults twice, so must be flying. At 1st 2 of the chicks were out the back door and 1 in the nest. Now 2 are in the nest.

I am having all kinds of computer problems. As of a few minutes ago, Niecey was on the shield. two in the scrape, and one at the back door.
