:loveheart2: Two of the chicks are just inside the nest and the 3rd just outside of it on the ledge.

Chicks have been exploring the ledge a bit this morning, and admiring themselves in the window. Also expressing their displeasure to Niecey for not feeding them. Had a guy here this morning to see why I am having connection problems. Well, the new modem was defective, so he installed a new one. How nice to not get bumped offline every ten minutes!

Thanks for posting the picture link of Lil Dad. That's what I hoped would be done with his body. Is it on display at the DEP?

:15heartbeat: I think so, but I don't know so. Jane will know for sure.

:eggthumb: No parents seen, but the 3 chicks are in a tight pile right outside the nest up against the building!

I knew Little Dad was going to be preserved. I first saw him two or three weeks ago when we had a meeting about falcon watch. At the time he was in the Ed Center of the Carson Building. I stood there and cried in front of the DEP staff. I really don't know if he will be in the Ed Center at all times, but I think that may be. The Ed Center used to be open to the public, but not sure what the situation is right now. This pandemic has changed everything.

:eggthumb: Watched one that wasn't all the way to the point, but could watch it from that cam. It decided to go back to the nest and fuss at Mom who is atop the front wall. The other 2 stayed down by the orange pole. The one in the nest is getting a lot of its juvie coloring now.

I think that was Yellow who was down near the point earlier. All three at the orange post right now. There is a severe thunderstorm watch for our area until 2:00 this afternoon. Sort of sunny now with a light breeze, and temps in mid 70s.

Storms went through our area around 1:00. I dis see a quick feeding on the ledge around 1:30 or so. Chicks are now sprawled out at various places on the ledge. Quite breezy now, and the humidity has dropped a lot.

:loveheart2: The chicks are all sacked out in the corner and Niecey is atop the front wall guarding her crew! Jane, what kind of bird is that...that chirps all night long near the nest area?

5/16/2022 :: Update on "Red"
The latest update on "Red," the young falcon currently being treated for trichomoniasis at Red Creek Wildlife Center, is that this young falcon's health is improving. Following a second treatment, Red should be ready for its return to the Rachel Carson State Office Building (RCSOB) by Wednesday. Planning is underway for this return to be done in such a way as to minimize any disturbance to the other three nestlings.
The other three nestlings will also be treated for trichomoniasis when Red is returned. This is preventative so the disease is not spread to the other three youngsters.
Additional updates will be provided prior to the release. --Falcon Wire, May 16

Swinwk, I have a hearing loss for high pitched sounds, and thus can't hear most birds. There are loads of House Finches downtown, as well as House Sparrows and Catbirds to name a few. I think Catbirds are known to sing at all hours of the day, so perhaps that's what you are hearing. We have located several Catbird nests in a hedge along the sidewalk near the train station where we do our falcon watches.

:eggthumb: Thanks, Jane! I went to listen to all 3 birds and without a doubt it is the single note of the House Sparrow that I hear throughout the night here.

:flirty: Feed in progress by Niecey on the ledge. All 3 nicely lined up, while 85 watches/listens from the point! I'm sure it was a special delivery by him!

House Sparrows are all over the place downtown. Some people actually feed the miserable things. i detest them, and would be happy if the falcons ate every one of them. But that is not likely, as they would most likely have to come to the ground for them. House Finches are quite brazen, and often torment a recently fledged juvie.

:15heartbeat: I wonder if they are making preparations to start. Niecey was atop the front wall and she kept looking back toward the building as if she heard something, then turned to face the building. One chick in the nest and the other 2 are down the ledge near the orange pole.

:15heartbeat: The process has started to retrieve the 3 chicks for preventative treatment of trich and the return of them and Red Girl to the ledge. They cut the cams at 11:00 am.
