:15heartbeat: Gabby was on the nest and think the visitor came in. It was the visitor and she seemed tolerant at 1st, but eventually starting biting at it and ran it up on the rail. Then she left the nest. So the visitor ends up back on the nest and Gabby is on a branch.

:15heartbeat: Here's what the site had to say:

jc_AEF
Whew! What a shift! I'll start with the calm stuff first. Gabby flew at 4:22. Returned at 4:53 in the nest with a bit of a crop and flew up to Sunset at 4:56. Some vocals. Back down in the nest at 5:29 and back to Sunset at 5:37. Vocals nearby could be heard. 5:38 V2 arrives in the nest and Gabby joins in the nest. Then a bit of a tussel ensued, Gabby goes to the Wallenda and V2 to lop. Maybe Gabby thought was Sam at 1st then discovered it wasn't ? Who's to say. Just know Gabby was NOT happy! jd_AEF jumped on cams to follow the next moves. Enjoy your evening!

:15heartbeat: At 6:35 pm EST, Gabby is currently on cam 1 asleep with her head tucked and V2 is on cam 2 shaking it's head to shoo away the insects every few seconds.

SATURDAY TUCK-IN: Well, if you've followed the events of the day, you know the visiting eagle from yesterday returned twice today and was quite bold, but not aggressive or terribly disturbing. At times Gabby was vocal, and other times she kept an eagle on the eagle. We have labeled the eagle V2 (visitor #2 since Samson hasn't returned). V2 has been perched at the popular perches on the tree, poked around in the nest (even with Gabby) and finally flew well after dark. Will V2 return tomorrow? I'm betting so. We still pain for Samson. It's still very raw, but we have to go with nature and see what develops. I know the Hamlet will fill with joy again. Gabby is home and fully tucked. SED dear Gabby and you too!

At 12:12 am on 12/4/22, Gabby is awake roosting on a branch and preening. She can be seen from cams 1 and 2.

Here's some pics of the days events.

Visitor 2 (V2), returned to the nest tree today and advanced into the nest to do nestorations under the watchful eye of Gabby. She softly vocalized. By nightfall, both were doing nestorations together, but Gabby suddenly turned on him. He did not fight back and showed no aggression toward her. She pushed him off the nest. Once she departed to perch in the tree for the night, he returned to the nest again. He then perched in the nest tree before leaving at 909 PM. Looks like Gabby is warming up to him.

As much as I don't like to think that Samson is not coming back, I am at that point. Seems like Gabby's eagle instincts of producing eggs is influencing her actions towards this new, persistent male. :15heartbeat:

Here are the visitors we have seen at the nest recently with their number and picture for clarification. We continue to hope for Samsons healthy return!

:15heartbeat: Earlier Gabby did seem to tolerate V2 while on the nest together working or at least more so than yesterday. She did snip mildly on him a few times at intervals as they worked, but not as harshly as the biting she did yesterday. I think they went to separate branches afterwards and thought he was going to stay the night, but later on he flew into the night.

At 7:22 V2 flies down into the nest then flies away a moment later. Gabby home alone, well for now. Everyone have a great evening!

Here is a shortened version of them working on the nest that because it is shortened, you do not get to see as much of the times they were actually working calmly next to each other.

SUNDAY TUCK-IN: Another busy evening at the nest as V2 followed Gabby home. It's obvious they spent time together off-site today. It's nice to see Gabby engaged in the nest again. She continues to "own the nest" as she should. V2 is roosting off-site and Gabby is home. What will tomorrow bring? We continue to pray for Samson's return and look for good days ahead for Gabby whatever that may be. SED everyone!

:flirty: At 10:55 pm, Gabby is on the nest tree alone sleeping with her head tucked.

:flirty: It appears Gabby's hormones are telling her to move on. Of course, she asserts her dominance over V2 as seen in the video.

:15heartbeat: Nobody home for now. Update from one of the mods at site:

sharipf_AEF
Samson still has not returned to the nest nor has he been seen and still no information of any kind as to what may have occurred . We are beyond saddened because we know that something must have happened to prevent Samson from returning to the nest. The hardest part is not knowing and having no information to go on. We can't even begin to speculate. V2 (Visitor #2) has been showing interest in Gabrielle, following close behind her when she returned to the nest last evening. She was tolerating his presence in the nest somewhat and allowing him to do some nest work. We do believe that V2 is a mature eagle with some unique feather coloring that may or may not get lighter in the coming months or years. Not all eagles have pure white head feathers and tails at the age of 5. It can take several more months or even a year or two to achieve those pure white feathers. Even then, some eagles can retain some dark feathering for their entire life. It remains to be seen if Gabrielle will begin to accept this new eagle and/or if others may come around vying for her attention. The instincts to survive and to reproduce are the main forces that guide eagle behavior and eventually Gabrielle will shake off the adversity and move forward. All we can do is continue to watch as everything plays out. We still remain hopeful for a miracle.
The material on Gabrielle's beak is either dried food or nesting material.

:15heartbeat: Nobody home now, but I missed this visitor from earlier this afternoon:

Good afternoon Hamlet family. Thank you for being here today. At 1:00 we are waiting for the return of Gabrielle, and possibly her friend. Stay tuned! We have a visitor arrive and land on Cam Branch at 2:48. It does not appear to have the markings of V2. This may be V1. The cams are as high as they will go. Any higher and the head gets out of view. Stay tuned as Pwhite_AEF takes over.

Good afternoon. The visitor flew after vocalizing at 3:04 PM.

:15heartbeat: Went back in this evening and found they added a comment out of order, but used the same time of the previous comment and are backing off now that the visitor was V1:

Good afternoon. The visitor flew after vocalizing at 3:04 PM. The consensus on today's visitor is uncertain. There were not enough good views that could be compared to V1 to state with certainty it is V1. There are similarities, but also differences (which could be due to different angles).

:15heartbeat: Apparently V2 did spend the entire night here. They mated earlier this morning and V2 at least has been in and out since. Will post captures and/or video later.

:15heartbeat: V2 continued to be in and out several times during the morning and afternoon waiting on Gabby it seemed. Finally Gabby did show up earlier this evening and he returned and both are roosting on the nest tree as of 6:40 pm.

:15heartbeat: 9:40 pm: Gabby on cam 1 and V2 cam 2 now. Below is the mating video from early this morning (I think V2 wanted to be "good and sure"! :teehee: ):

:flirty: They spent the entire night here. Gabby was knocked off a branch at 5:32 this morning and the entire sequence can still be seen on the cam from YT that has the DVR. Gabby is currently on LOP and V2 not on the nest tree, but was earlier this afternoon.

While this video says V2 was knocked off, it was actually Gabby. Video by Just Ducky. Copyright 2022 American Eagle Foundation, EAGLES.ORG

:15heartbeat: For now only Gabby is on the nest tree. V2 was here very early afternoon. Also, see the video posted above from this early morning of Gabby being knocked off the branch by a Barred Owl. She was okay and returned to the branch he knocked her off of, then she went to the branch near where V2 was.

:15heartbeat: The tables were turned today as Gabby was alone last night and yesterday afternoon which she seemed to spend watching for V2 to show and he didn't. Today Gabby was gone and V2 showed up early afternoon I believe and was in and out and in and out all afternoon apparently looking and waiting for Gabby. There was a visitor to the nest tree, then nest for a couple of minutes somewhere around 4:45 and then flew, but I am unsure if V2 had anything to do with that. He did come in right after the visitor left and seemed to be on high alert though. Finally he saw Gabby in the distance and flew out to meet her and flew back in with her. They did mate again on the nest tree and V2 seems to take a little longer than some and so far he remains standing there on top for a bit afterwards too it seems. Or maybe it just seems that way as he doesn't fall or slide off and fly away as they do a lot of times. He also chased an intruder afterwards. Thought he was going to spend the night, but he flew and Gabby is alone again.

:15heartbeat: Just arriveing to NEFL for the 1st time today, but have been hearing elsewhere of all the action here. Apparently Gabby flew out this morning and at some point V3 came in and was in and out all day maybe waiting on Gabby. She did come in early evening with V3 and eventually both in the nest working, but both left and only V3 came back and he has remained on the nest and is sleeping on it.

Some mod reports from today (Have saved some comparison captures and a video and will try to post tomorrow to this post.):

An update on this afternoons activities! And there were some! V3 flew off the nest at 2:54. Returned at 3:50. At 4:08 moves above cam 1's reach. 4:26 V3 flies off. Both arrive together at 5:10 with vocals. Gabby to higher branch at 5;15 and V3 continues working in the nest. Both fly at 5:18. V3 returns at 5:31 and appears to be waiting on Gabby. Next up is jd_AEF to continue to follow the happenings! Have a great evening everyone!

sharipf_AEF
There is a lot of speculation going on right now about what is happening at NEFL. Everyone watching knows pretty much everything we know. We have identified this eagle as V3 - we believe V3 is a male because it is highly unlikely Gabby would allow a female in her nest. Why is she not at the nest tonight? We don't know. Are we concerned? No. We believe Gabby is close since we heard vocals nearby. Today is the 1st day that V3 has spent any significant time at the nest and/or around Gabby that we have seen on cams. It took a few days for Gabby to warm up to V2. Perhaps that is what is going on here. We are only observers - same as all of you - so we have pulled up a chair, we have a bowl of popcorn and we are watching to see what the cams reveal.

V3 is tucked in the nest at 12:25 am

As someone said before, "As the Nest Turns" :15heartbeat:
Yesterday I updated the first page announcing V2 as Samson's successor. I guess I was a bit premature.
