:15heartbeat: I don't think there has been any eagle activity since early this morning, but am unsure.

:15heartbeat: Cams are offline, hopefully from power outage. Update from Gretchen:

gretchen_AEF
HAMLET WEATHER UPDATE: As expected rain and gusty winds have reached the Hamlet and will likely prevail thru tomorrow...as clearly seen on the cams. Ian still has a ways to go as it crawls eastward across the state of Florida (currently a Cat 2). Tomorrow the Hamlet should be affected the most and much of the day and possibly into Friday. I predict tomorrow Ian will reduce to a Cat 1 or hopefully only a Tropical Storm when it approaches the Hamlet area. Samson and Gabby were last seen at the nest last night. They are intuitive, mighty eagles and instinctively seek shelter during storms. Prayers for their safety along with their nest, nest tree and that the cam equipment isn't affected. It is most likely the cams will go down when power is lost. If power is out at length, we will report when it's safe to check the nest area. All the AEF cam volunteers that reside in Florida are fine. Be safe everyone! SED

HAMLET WEATHER UPDATE: As expected rain and powerful winds have reached the Hamlet and will likely prevail thru the day and possibly into tomorrow. Ian has been reduced to a Tropical Storm. Samson and Gabby were last seen at the nest Tuesday night. They are intuitive, mighty eagles and instinctively seek shelter during storms. Prayers for their safety along with their nest, nest tree and that the cam equipment isn't affected. Power is out in the nest area, so cams went down around 4:15am. We will report when it's safe to check the nest area, but that won't likely be until tomorrow. All the AEF cam volunteers that reside in Florida are fine. Be safe everyone!

:10sum: Nest tree still standing and nest appears to be still intact! They are waiting on the return of Samson and Gabby.

We are cautiously optimistic! Ground crew was able to get to the Hamlet to check out the nest tree and nest. While there are some uprooted trees and a lot of standing water, the nest appears to be intact and the nest tree held on strong through the storm. It is truly a fortress and we are certainly blessed. Now we wait for Samson and Gabrielle to return. Samson will be in his glory with all the new sticks close at hand! 09/29/22

:eggthumb: Still waiting for a sighting by one of the ground crew, however a resident confirmed a sighting of Samson and Gabby on the nest earlier today and it seems to be enough for Gretchen! Welcome back Samson and Gabby!!

UPDATE: I checked out the nest twice today along with two of their other favorite perching spots. I wasn't successful in spotting them, but it was a beautiful, sunny day perfect for soaring. A resident in the nest area confirmed Samson and Gabby were in the nest later this afternoon. I quickly went over there but didn't see them, as they likely flew. The nest looks good and all cams are in place. Now we anxiously wait for power in the nest area to be certain the cams are operable. The area around the nest is completely submerged in standing water. There is flooding in the area as well and trees down including uprooted trees. I could get a better view of the nest in the back from a distance. It's a wonderful relief to know our treasured Samson and Gabby have returned after the ugly storm that keeps on "giving". Be safe everyone and feel the blessings! SED

Although I am happy to hear that Gabby and Samson are okay, the general devastation breaks my heart.

:eggthumb: Was surprised to see they slipped back to the nest tree sometime after Gretchen had report they were there and she went looking for them yesterday. I guess when the power came up during the night or real early morning they were on the tree. And Samson and Gabby are currently on the nest tree and it looks as if they plan on spending the night. Some of the reports from the day:

SUNDAY TUCK-IN: Gabby remained at the nest tonight thru chat. What a great season kick-off! Everyone is on fire for this nesting season and chat was a busy one. Thanks to all joining in on our celebration. Samson arrived about 7:20, and it looks like they are home again tonight. The flooding in the nest area has receded. It's a mess, but will be cleaned up quickly. SED everyone!

Good evening everyone! Gabby has decided to test out the nest. Samson is on the Sunset branch wind surfing. Both flew at 7:17 and have arrived at the Evening Tree. It was so wonderful having Samson and Gabby at the nest tonight. SED's everyone and stay safe!

:eggthumb: Both are spending the night on the nest tree with Samson on cam 1 and Gabby on 2 Earlier this evening Samson had an owl visitor that landed on a branch near him. Samson flapped his wings at the owl and away it went!

:eggthumb: After spending the night, they worked on the nest this morning. Samson and Gabby were both here this evening, but Samson left and Gabby remains on the nest tree to spend the night. She probably couldn't fly off with Samson because her crop is so huge... Kept hearing noises while typing this and went back in, she is trying to work that crop load downward!

:eggthumb: It looks as if Samson was in earlier this evening, but flew. So they are elsewhere for the night.
