:sorrow: E24

From SWFEC:

"We are devastated to post that it appears E24 may have passed this evening after showing signs of distress. We have no information other than what was observed on the cameras. We will work with local wildlife officials to decide next steps"

I am devastated. Been following everyday. All looked so good. Watched them trying to self feed yesterday.
Nature is so unpredictable

I hope it is not rodent poisoning.

Rest In Peace. You made my heart sing

They have retrieved remains of E24 and will release results , when they get them. I am relieved they did this. E25 was in no danger as he would just gI into crouch mode at this age.

So far E25 looks fine

I did not go to look at adults reactions, as some did, as , for me, that should be their private moments

I wish they taken E25 to check over as well. Adults would not have rejected him when put back. He is not very active . Fingers crossed

:sorrow: We have lost E25 apparently. I am going to post what I wrote in real time as is.

2:48 AM Unbelievable! I just went to check on E25 and something is wrong.
2:49 AM Appears to be quite ill.
2:52 AM E25 is having so much balance troubles it is in grave danger of going overboard. Although, I wouldn't expect it to recover from whatever is taking it. Going quickly just as E24.
2:54:59 AM And gone. E25 fell out of the nest, however I don't know if he caught on a part of the nest out of sight or fell to the ground. E25 continued having balance issues. SWFEC has not commented as yet.

Edit to add:

Jan 28, 2:02 AM
purpleagle (Admin): It breaks my heart to tell you that E25 was seizing and fell from the nest at about 2:55AM

And coming in this morning found new message from SWFEC:

We have lost E25. CROW was able to get on the ground with a vet to try and save the fallen eaglet but it has succumbed to the same symptoms as E24 and will be taken to the clinic for a full necropsy. 8 minutes ago

I am just devastated
But I want to add this:

Please do not send me nasty messages for having my say

I knew when I saw E25, he had same as E24. I stated yesterday, I wish they had taken him also.

But. I have had the sadness of witnessing this at my falcon sites. I had taken video at my sites W I h has been shared with many biologists.
I will wait until they come back with preliminaries, before I say anymore.
This is so tragic. I saw him almost fall once before I turned in last night.
Fly free young ones . You were loved

Sad to see empty nest.
Adults have not been at nest today so far, but observers say they are perched close together. They are trying to monitor adults as closely as they can. They saw both do fly around and said they looked good. Lots of prayers from me.
Life makes no promises

In my human head, I am thinking, they are watching to see if eaglets returned or trying to figure out if nest site safe. (. That is human mind) but M15 has had eaglets removed before and returned, so they will move on quickly, but maybe wondering where kids are )

It has been confirmed that E24and E25 passed as a result of avian flu.
So now I will say what I was going to say earlier.
I knew when I saw E 24 that it was probably avian flu, and for sure when I saw symptoms from E25.
Why did I know. Because I witnessed and had to document this first hand with our falcons at Genesee a few years back. It was hard to have to monitor. We went out trying to find our female , but never , ever found her, but we knew , what she had, by my video. We picked up so many that year, some deceased and some near deceased. ( Near deceased had same symptoms) .

Out Provincial biologist is monitoring avian flu, globally with biologists from different countries. They are on a global team. My biologist asked for my video, to use , to show what happens.
The symptoms are the same , irregardless of species.
My heart is so heavy.
This is just a nasty disease.
I pray M15, and F23 remain healthy. There seems to be no understanding why some are afflicted and some not. ( Just like with humans) .
(Why was our Genesee female afflicted and not her mate. She had 4 eggs that year, which were recovered, very carefully, and incubated in an incubator, in an enclosure. Eggs carefully handled. All 4 hatched and were fed and tested. All 4 were then put in with female falcons of a breeder. Later they were released at our hack site. So this was not passed to embryos of eggs. Our female had this when she lay last egg ., for sure)

I only wanted to add this information here , to show that this disease is being investigated by a global committee, and hopefully they can find an antidote, and the how it is originally contracted. This disease has no borders, it just is.
Bless this nest

I watched the interview and will post link here in a bit did best I could

I watched M15 and F23 since eaglets passed. I did not see F23 yesterday but today, she flew into pond well and then after bathing flew into tree by pond and then a nice strong flight to nest tree.
She looked better today, IMO, than the other day.
M15 - Have seen yesterday and today at pond. A subadult keeps following him( big, so possibly female ) . He appears to be flying ok

Fingers crossed. The next week will be critical. Hopefully no adults try to come in. I do not believe our pair are ready to defend

I have read various comments on here and have decided to chime in. I have followed this nest for many years, and of course am completely crushed with the loss of two precious eagets, and now there is concern for both adults. If you go to the official website you will find a link to CROW, the wildlife folks who have come to the aid of this nest more than once. There are rules that must be followed in regard to dealing with an active nest. I advise you to read the information from CROW. You may need to look around a bit to find it, or else Google Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife. You will find out why they did or did not do certain things. This is very painful for me.

I read everything Jane, and I also was in on their conference . I have followed this nest for years also. Been through a lot here . the loss of Ozzie, Harriet and a few eaglets.
We are all crushed . I know all their rules and regulations.
I have not posted anything against what they have done . I just added my knowledge of avian flu, so ones at this site would know that there are global experts that are trying ot figure out this devastating disease

I had originally stated that I had wished they had taken E25 also. ( at that time, did not know their policy here) . Here in Canada they could have removed the other one also for testing. But I also listened to their video conference ,. where it was stated that a better exam couldn't be don e in nest as E25 had gone over by edge of nest an d it was dangerous.

I have been trying tog post link but I get all sorts of ads om it

Managed to post 2 links of one of my earlier posts . Sorry if ads in it

So far no eagles but F23 and M15 both looked good in flight. Hope they soon make nest a regular thing. :15heartbeat: :penguin: :15heartbeat: :15heartbeat: :15heartbeat:
I remain optimistic
