all I can say is that was not good...
it's a high of 28F with bitter cold wind....
That is Maurice in your scap that was on the eggs before the abscence, and it is Mystic who got on in the 17:00 time frame scap.
Will try to do a watch tomorrow afternoon. I have a suspicion that he is waiting for her to catch a pigeon, and follows her to take it/or join in with her. Saw him doing this alot over the winter, and was concerned he would get "used to it"..
Only some time spent there will tell though...I could be totally wrong and hope i am, but something is keeping him off those eggs....

did you figure out what was keeping Maurice off eggs. maybe a passerby. But is quite common at times

Did not make it there the day of...but the next day and up to now, the eggs have been covered normally. We will know at the end of the month if there was any negative results...
Personally, just my ideas were also intruder, Bev, and the other is noticing that Maurice lags in the production of the hormone that makes him want to incubate. Froona had talked about it in the Froona's Corner section, and I can't remember what it's called at the moment, but it changes his behaviour and makes him start to hunt FOR her and makes him stay ON the eggs... I wonder how much his age factors into that too.

Also, as we have witnessed, during the winter, he waits till she makes a kill, then takes what he wants from her, without her backing him off. She treated him like a juvie in doing that..
When we were there the next day, he checked all over the building and the First Merit building AFTER a unsuccesful hunting outing... That is telling me, that he has become used to her kills as a food source, which is resourceful. Not saying he doesn't hunt, he does... He definitely provides, but the habits of winter are hard to break, and the smaller birds are late coming thru this year, with today and yesterday, the first real springlike weather this year. Again, just my thoughts from watching...

TSusan, Photobucket and I don't "get along", so I've begun to limit my uploads to it. Is this the pic you liked? It's Maurice going super fast when he used the wind to help propell him around and over the nestbox building.

Yes, Matrix, that's the one!! I would have loved to have seen that! Hopefully as the weather gets milder I can get up there in the city....by the way, I suspect you have the "hatching" days all plotted out. Care to share your hypothesis ?
