Jeeeeze - remember Laurel and Hardy? Well, Stan here... I got nervous and went back downtown....
Parked the car this time - and when I say RAIN............. I mean RAIN! And Baltimore was packed! The Oriole Game was postponed - so I don't know what was going on but all the parking lots had "Event Parking."

From what I figured out looking at aerial pictures... the address is 100 Light St... but the nest doesn't face Light Street. (I don't remember what street it faces, but I was on that side...) and there were 2 people sitting on a bench - so I asked them... "are you here for Fledge Watch?"
:girlcrazy: Call the men in white coats! They had no idea what I was talking about. (Meanwhile I had a tote bag with a sheet and gloves in it - thank goodness I left the box in the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) And it was pouring!

This is not a one-person job!!!! But I'll try again tomorrow! (It only takes 20 minutes to get there... )

Sooooo, did that little stinker fledge? Or hide???? :flirty:

Bonbon, what a great thing you're trying to do!

The only thing I can think of that hasn't been addressed here (that I've seen anyway) is whether you need permission to pick one up if need be. Since falcons are protected & there are even laws stating you can get into trouble just possessing a feather of a falcon, I imagine possessing a whole falcon would be questionable. It might just be a matter of getting permission from Craig Koppie. I would just really hate to have you get into trouble doing trying to help!

June 27, 2015 RAIN Saddaday afternoon Shepnotes
6.40 am OK I can identify the 2 sisters - so its Koppie who is not on cam. Did he go off? Very windy.
7.20 am I see one in bottom right corner - might be more than 1
7.30 am OK now I see all 3
8 am Boh shows up on ledge with prey
8.30 all 3 snuggle together under bridge near nest. Sweet
10 am Terribly windy, I seriously doubt fledge today! One looks scared
Parent musta brot prey cuz one ran to far end of roof and returned halfway with it
10.15 am THAT is too funny! After sitting way down the roof, finally Koppie carried it up next to the one under bridge, then mantled.
MINE! Cant have it! haha not nice! Bursie looks like Koppie when I cant see her white hat.
11 am kids just RAN down to other end - parent there?? guess so, one kid has prey
O WOW! Burnie just flew from curb near cam right up over to bridge!
Looks like all day rain - lucky bonbon - lol
4 pm Burnsie appears with a snack - cam's all spotted

Hey "Stan"..I have an idea for you...why don't you either post/email/message Chesapeake Conservancy and ask them the best place to view the nest ledge and what, if any, rescue plans are in place. they have several interns that monitor the FB page (not sure that happens on the weekend), and I've always gotten a response when I've messaged them on FB..

When I left to run errands, all 3 were in view..and since I have been back, I have seen nothing but raindrops on the lens covering..LOL

Thanks, Cat - frankly, I was hoping - IF I saw one, that someone with knowledge and experience would be there... I had planned (???) to put a sheet over it and start calling EVERYONE on my list, and keeping any bystanders away! I was worried more about harming a chick - didn't even think about getting locked up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :egg14:

MA - I added to the email "Where is the best place to watch the falcons from the ground."

Added: MA - I also can't believe that there isn't a crowd of people that want to see this! :flirty:

if you have to pick on e up becasue it is in danger, nothing will happen to you. just phone your numbers if you have them. Pick up chick or let it get run over. I would pick up every time.

talk about straight jackets a lot think we are nuts LOL

hope all goes well for you. do not worry.

Bonnie, I agree about picking it up if it is in danger, but if there is someone you can contact beforehand (although being a weekend now that might not be possible) you can avoid any possible repercussions. We've read some stories about good samaritans doing the right thing but running into legal problems anyway. If you can get permission, it would be good, but if you can't, don't worry about it!

Thanks so much everyone - honestly - after being at the site today - I can't figure out how they'll land on the ground! Standing below and looking up - you can barely see the top ledge/roof (yes - I had my binoculars around my neck! :girlcrazy: )(esp in todays horrible rain)... I'd love to know how many successful fledges have been made on a first try. I couldn't figure out where in the world they would land - I'd love to know if a parent hangs out on a roof that's visible to the chicks (would that be a possibility?).

I know I sound like a broken record - but I couldn't believe NO ONE WAS THERE!!!!

(I'll send Craig an email - just to tell him I'll be there watching - and to let him know I'll call him in an emergency...)

(If I get locked up - I'll take a Photobucket Shower Curtain to decorate my cell!) :teehee:

Bonbon, emailing Craig was a good idea so I think you've CYA! :egg13: I don't know how many chicks make a successful first flight as opposed to landing on the ground, but sometimes they will do well on their first flight & get into trouble a day or 2 later. It is hard to believe that nobody was there, but it may be because of the rain. They probably didn't think there would be an fledging in the rain. Now that there is a cam for this nest, I think you may have company next year because more people will be exposed to the nest. They will probably land on a building near the building the nest is on, or even on a ledge below the nest ledge.

Good luck!

OK...not to ignore everything that has been posted above... (except, bonbon you're a :superstar: )..but, I have not seen 3 on the ledge at the same time since I posted "3 on the ledge" this afternoon..we all know you can not see the far end and I'm not always sure who I am seeing when I am seeing them because of the cam distortion..(if you watch this cam enough, you'll know what I mean)...SO, I'm not saying somebody has fledged, but....

I have been recording since I got home this afternoon and I have just stopped...because it is dark. These 2 became very active as it started getting dark. They both came from the far end of the ledge and both eventually ended up in the nest tray...who knows if they stayed there..

The following short vid occurred (really should have written down the time) sometime between 6:00 and 6:30 pm..(I think) 2 of the kids had been really, really active..running, flapping, etc on top of the table..one ended up running on down the ledge and out of view..and this one?

I don't know if it landed on the ledge or missed and fledged accidentally...in all of my recordings after this, I never saw this juvie walk back from the edge of the ledge. Its so close to being out of cam view, I may have missed seeing it tight rope on down the ledge...

Anyway...I have NO viewing time on Sunday until the evening...so, the goal is to see how many are really there..

the other thing? No food drop this afternoon OR evening. Barb did land once, early evening, but had no food...

Bonbon...good luck tomorrow if you get to go!!!

The CALL of the WILD SKIES

June 28, 2015 SONday Shepnotes
Koppie, Cadey the youngest girl and Burnsie
----------------------------------
5.08 am I watched first light tinge in upper left corner - and HUGE flapping wings on the curb in the blackness
then the faint light pushed away the darkness s l o w l y over the nest and roof
At least 2 spent the night in nest tray - Burnsie was 2nd to exit it (white hat)
I wonder if bon is there now
5.15 am One is at the other end of bridge looking outward thinking - ahhh maybe today!
5.40 am Burnsie up on ledge

I believed Koppie would be GONE this weekend - he was so ready!

SKY - 5.30 am I saw 2 and they appear to be the girls judging by size - BOTH spent nite in tray
I watched your video FULL SCREEN in stop - BEAUTIFUL fledge - if it was a fledge!
I love your pics! Good job. I do remember seeing a couple run on ledge back n forth
Cady prefers to run on black rooftop
I am SO GLAD you got the video!

bon - look at this
http://www.100lightstreet.com/the_falcon

I kinda hate to post my notes this early - before 6 am
I'd rather wait to see all 3 - but - we may NOT see #3
