Great pic, bonbon!!

I've been so tied up with Columbus and trying to catch the fledges, I've really fallen behind here...

8:24pm - Hi all! Didn't take a pic... (guess where the Baltimore gang is?) :girlcrazy:
(I'm also curious about what they'll find out (bug-wise, health-wise) when the chicks are banded... they sure are cutie pies!
Also - I've been reading some of the other 'nest notes' re fledging... pretty scary stuff. Does someone usually hang around down below in case there's a mishap? Who? What happens? Isn't the timing unpredictable (to say the least?) Does the 'watcher' try to catch :girlcrazy: the bird??? or rescue it???)
Thanks! xoxo

Bonbon, fledge watch involves people "hanging around" watching the ledge for fledges, & yes, the timing is unpredictable. People who have done this a number of times can pretty much tell when one is getting ready to go. You also should have supplies, like a box to put a juvie in if it needs to be rescued, & different groups use different things to keep a juvie from running away. In Harrisburg, they use a net to cover the juvie until someone with training to handle the bird can get there. Anyway, they will try to corner a juvie & then slip the net over them, which is where extra people come in handy.

If it would be convenient for you, the Harrisburg girls have just fledged & they have a fledge watch right now. They are begging for extra people, so if you are interested, go to the Harrisburg topic & let them know:

On the Harrisburg link sky posted is a good video of a rescue of 2
a sheet was tossed over them, they were collected and gently put in a box,
taken to roof - and allowed to exit by themselves. Well done!
That was a live rescue.
One of theirs flew into a window and didnt make it.

Kentucky falcon also had a live rescue but injured.

June 6, 2015 Saturday Shepnotes
6.30 am I caught Boh panting heavily on the ledge with fresh prey, then saw Barb2 back to my left.
- Boh left with the prey. Chicks huddled mostly outta view under cam, crops are empty, stubby tail feathers appearing
9 am I just noticed one chick almost outta cam view is ACTUALLY PERCHED on that curb.
LQQK for them to climb out this weekend - and remember - thats NORMAL, you can breathe.
These are FALCONS, they are raised on cliffs!
10.30 am One went to the doorway to bask in the sun.

Hi everyone...
I'm pretty sure they haven't been banded yet... only because I think the cam will probably be off - and I think Ches Conserv. will post the info on FaceBook. (That's only MHO.)

(Off topic - Thanks for answering all of my questions (I think you can read everything in print about these birds... unless you watch and listen to the 'watchers' (You=experts) - that's the only way to learn... think I told you I know a teenyweeny bit about osprey (and cats!) - What a difference! (Warning: I googled "curly-tailed peregrine falcon" and a PORN. SITE tried to give me a virus!!! Jeeeez...)
BTW - I google-mapped Harrisburg - it's only an hour and a half away... just can't do it this weekend).

Yes, its quite close, but hopefully they will be able to end fledge watch this weekend. One girl seems to be doing well, but the other isn't really. Wouldn't you know it, Red Girl is the problem! :eggroll:

7:05pm - Parent(?) was watching the chicks... and left
(I checked on Harrisburg)

7:16pm - Parent(?) with chick acting like s/he's feeding... then hopped on the dividing curb, then to the ledge and flew off... There's part of a wing there - (couldn't see it) - but that's probably what was being fed.

7:25pm- Someone's back and feeding 2 of the chicks... the littlest one is standing to the right (alone) - must not be hungry...
726pm - He's with the gang now... looks like he's chirping more than eating!

My guess is the one looking out the door is a male.
I believe if they dont get up on the curbs today - they will tomorrow.
One was perched solidly on the curb under the cam - too outta view for a pic yesterday.
The curb cam left is double - like a step - or they'da been up there already I suspect.
