Adult female identified at Oak Creek Power Plant
By Greg Septon, peregrine falcon manager

This morning at 9:50, I was able to read the band number of an adult female via the webcam in the nest box at this site. She is (b/r) 66/X. She was produced in 2012 at the East Chicago Mittal Steel Indiana Harbor West nest site in Lake County, Ind. This is my first sighting of a female peregrine here so far this season. I've been hoping to see Eclipse (b/r) 67/H, the female that has nested here since 2010 but nothing so far. :cryinggirl:

Having identified the male here yesterday and the female today, it appears we may have an entirely new pair here this year. Time will tell.

New adult male at Oak Creek nest box
By Greg Septon, peregrine falcon manager

There seems to be a new adult male peregrine at Oak Creek Power Plant. I was able to read his band number Sunday morning via the webcam, and he is: Matt (b/r) 38/N. Matt was produced in 2012 at the Midwest Generation site in Waukegan, Ill. His mother is Fran (b/g) 5/*X, who I banded as a nestling under the Hoan Bridge here in Milwaukee in 1999. His father is Greg (b/g) 92/N, who I banded as a nestling at the Racine County Courthouse in 2005. What a great way to start the day!

Pleasant Prairie Power Plant adult male identified

I spent a few hours on March 8 watching the webcam and was able to get a brief look at the bands on the adult male. I still want to get another look to verify things, but for now, I believe he is PBR (b/r) 07/B. PBR was produced at Milwaukee's Miller Coors Brewery nest site in 2009. This would be PBR's third year at this site.

About 10:30 a.m., an adult female entered the nest box, and the pair displayed to each other -- at which point I was able to zoom in on the female's band when she wasn't looking and saw that Thilmany (b/g) N/44 is back! Thilmany was produced in 2007 at the Thilmany Mill nest site in Kaukauna. This is her sixth year here. :flirty:

The unbanded, tawny-colored adult female that had been present here since Nov. 15 last year appears to have been displaced by Thilmany within the past day. Whether or not there will be any territorial battles here this season remains to be seen, but the fact that the unbanded female was here all winter leads me to believe we may see her again.

Thanks KF....I'm not giving up on Eclipse yet...since both are AWOL...I have to wonder if they have moved?

....and now to read the sad news about Swede's death (Valley) and Madame X's (Milwaukee) severe injury... :girlsad3:

Well remember there is the 2 other nests at Oak Creek, the one the Owls used and then falcons then the other one that they boarded up (north, south, east or west not sure). Remember there was still a good sized platform there. So they could be at either of those.
BUT Eclipse is such a feisty one if she wants this nest she'll just go right in and stake her claim & this is a youngun here now she could be chased away fast.

About Swede this is so sad, he always was right there for the babies. He will be missed. He lived s lot longer than some 15 yrs isn't anything to sneeze at for sure.
RIP dear Swede :sorrow:
I wonder what they are talking about with Valley
(With Swede gone, a successful nest also is in jeopardy at this site)
With the picture they have and I have at least 4 Valley will be productive I'm sure. All the bonding going on I just wish I knew who the couple is.

Found an article and pictures of Madame X from the Milwaukee County nest.
When they said she was feisty they were so right. I'mso glad they aren't going to do anything bad ( you know the "E" word) with her, & she will be an educational bird.

RE: Oak Creek

A little bit of drama...Greg posted this on the blog today:

I received a call Tuesday afternoon from Eric Adsen at Oak Creek Power Plant informing me that there was a peregrine grounded on site and that there was a lot of activity near the old nest box at the North plant. I asked him to take a photo of the falcon with his phone and send it to me (see photo). The falcon was (b/r) 66/X, the new female I identified in the nest box the day before.

It appears another female peregrine is at this site and vying for the territory. From the image, 66/X didn't look like she had suffered any obvious serious injuries -- no drooping wing(s), no blood, etc. -- just a little wet from the rain. So, I told Eric to let her be where she was perched -- on a 3-4 foot high concrete barrier -- for the evening and check on her today. In the meantime, I kept an eye on the webcam at the new nest box but saw no falcons there. Could Eclipse have returned? We'll check things out.

See as I posted yesterday SGB Eclipse might be at the other nest box on the other side of the building, your girl is going to be there this year even if its not on cam. She likes it there :hapdance:

:sham1: I looked at the stills this afternoon. Really pretty picture- from the b ack of a Pleasant Prairie falcon at 2pm, and someone is playing with the cam at Port Washington - a "wonderful" close - up picture of a falcon snarffing prey.... Also caught someone home at Milwaukee Power at 2ppm, and 5pm

Thank you to everyone who has been reporting on the WE Energies Nests. Definitely some sad and tragic news regarding several of the birds. I have updated the first page of this topic to include the changes. Looking forward to a successful breeding season in Wisconsin.
