Bird Cams Around the World

Well that wasn't long....Aries is back...lol. Looks like Durand found herself a good mate.

It's been difficult telling these two apart when their bands are not visible, but Durand and Aries cooperated and allowed me to get mug shots to compare facial markings. Aries has more white in his cheeks and a smaller, rounder head with darker cere. He is so cute. He looks like a chipmunk...lol. Durand has a brow ridge over each eye, typical of females. Her white malar markings are more muted. It is hard to compare these pics when one is in the sun and the other in the shade, but I think you get the idea. When you watch them both long enough, their differences becomes more obvious.

Durand in the shade. By late afternoon, she was too sleepy to let me get a pic of the other side of her face. She must have wore herself out while Aries egg sat all day...lol..

I know SGB...I miss Spark too! This is the 1st peregrine nest I ever watched...right after Spark's arrival. He was a special mate for Durand following the duds she had before him. He will always hold a place in my heart. My profile pic is him and I will never change it. I pray he is OK and found a new girlfriend, as you posted at the start of this thread, but I accept the reality that he may not be. If so, he lived what he was born to do - live wild and free while successfully raising a family. Not many get that chance. In watching Aries, he has grown on me. Durand seems nuts about him and she trusts him with the eggs. I can see why. He is turning out to be a good mate for her and a good Daddy. He is on egg duty as I write this. I wonder how long he will be on the eggs today...lol. I'm heading to work with no cam access, so enjoy the viewing! Have a wonderful day!

Lol...sounds like yesterday. Every time I checked, he was there. When she relieved him mid-day, it was very short. Maybe she told him she couldn't do the sun. She eventually came home late afternoon and zonked out. I would love to know what she does all day.

The first year Durand was at Columbus she had 5 eggs, but none hatched....so, 5 is certainly possible for her.

I posted somewhere: We always will miss our favorites and they will remain in our hearts but we soon grow fond of the new ones. They all have their own special quirks

Thanks SKB. When I checked this morning, it was dark enough that the cam image was still gray, the lights were glowing over Columbus, and Aries was in a deep sleep. I wasn't sure how long he was there, but he certainly could have relieved her earlier and I missed it. Hope she did a night shift. Jeez! I'm at work and won't have cam access until this evening.
