Mom's been in to check a few times this morning...

This was Dad's turn.

Either breakfast cam VERY early or there hasn't been one..

The chick is gaining strength. Saw it take 3 steps while standing upright before tumbling down. Did some wing flaps. So pretty right now all fluffy and white. Think it's hungry as it has been picking at scraps from the floor.

I really had to lighten these.

..toward the end of the feed.

Mom left with a morsel...to maybe eat in peace..

Feed in progress by Mom. The chick just snatched the whole bird from Mom! After a minute or two, Mom was able to get it back and is de-feathering. Then she restarts the feed. The chick tried to make another grab for the bird while Mom was feeding it, I think because the bites weren't coming fast enough to suit it. Mom did not have leftovers when she left. I see Mom is sporting remnants of the PS from the chick the other day on the left side of her body.

Chick is sleeping and one of the parents is atop the nest box roof as I can see their shadow on the wall of the building.

Came in at a point where the chick was handling prey and Dad was standing beside it. Dad's beak was messy and I have to assume the chick had taken this prey from Dad who was trying to feed it. Dad left! :teehee:

The chick has it's back to us, but you can see the prey it's holding under it's talons and trying to tear and eat!! Mom came in at 11:12 and tried to take, but the chick picked it up and moved the prey away from her and continued to hold and try to tear to eat. Mom watched, then finally moved in and took it and a bite for herself, then is feeding the chick. My time may not be correct, because I leave this tab up and forget to refresh. Now it's already 11:20 even though only seconds have passed and Mom is standing on the lip and the chick is behind her. I no longer see the prey, so I guess it was all consumed. This chick is HUGE and I am thinking it is female and cut from the same cloth as her Mom as far as temperament goes!! :teehee:

Mom and chick are panting. Mid 90's here this afternoon. Wonder if chick will come out of box soon.

Hope this doesn't seem silly, the chick looks fine, but hot. Twice today I have noticed the chick either while sitting or standing, extend the front of it's neck and roll the back of it's head across it's back in one singular motion. And it was a little off-putting at 1st as I don't recall seeing this before with anyone. The 1st time I saw it do this I was just coming in and it did it while it happened to be changing positions and the last thing you want to see is a chick's head suddenly swoon backwards and roll. When I saw it was okay, I wondered if it was trying to do something with its crop. But the 2nd time I wondered if it's trying to scratch an itch? I remembered the 1st Harrisburg chick that fledged and they rescued was taken to rehab (because they aren't banding this season and won't have in hand to treat) d/t a possible mite infestation. Excerpt from "Falcon Wire":

"The young falcon was not injured and appeared healthy, but during rescue, a possible mite infestation was observed around the fledgling's mouth and head."

Wonder if this chick has a mite infestation on the back its head ... or if I just wonder too much. :flirty:

Oh heck, I missed her coming out of the nest box, but saw her standing in front of it facing the wall of the building and now she is out of sight exploring and seeking cooler conditions! :dancingegg:
