Even though I opened the cam early, I guess I missed breakfast (don't know)...the baby has been dozing on/off in the box since I've had it open.

Mom has just landed on the top of the box...not much reaction from the little one...Oh wait....wing stretch...

Gosh...these guys are putting ME to sleep...

Little one just got up for a stretch, poop shot, and a hop/flap...Maybe there'll be some action before I have to leave.

Mom went to the box, found some leftovers, and finished them off while the baby watched.

Mom left briefly, then the flapping started.

Mom goes back into the box, and the munchkin decides to go for her band.

When that didn't work, it went for her wing.

Its being super cute with Mom right now....she's just being patient.

I can't decide if we have a male or a female. Anybody have a guess?

I think male. In my opinion, females would be as tall as mom.

I am seeing the chick's reflection on the slanted wall adjacent to the right nest box wall and can't see it, so must be behind the nest box I hope. I do not see any part of it's body between the nest box and the slanted wall.

It's more difficult when there is a lone chick, but here's an excerpt from my post the morning of the 3rd:

This chick is HUGE and I am thinking it is female and cut from the same cloth as her Mom as far as temperament goes!! :teehee:

Sorry I keep missing all this discussion. I have the cam open all day but I’m missing the feeds, so I really appreciate you watching. This box is so hot in the afternoon, the chick is goin to wander into the shade now. I was leaning toward a female, her mom is huge, but I’m usually wrong on these guesses.

There is a new nesting pair around DC in Reston VA on a high rise. One of the chicks fledged and ended up with a rehabber this week. This chick is not close yet.

I haven't seen her do this in a while...

Dad just arrived on the ledge with food. Woke Mom up, she grabbed it and took off. Got the baby's attention too as it came trotting from the left side of the box. Lunch for someone...

My timing is way off today...I just missed the feed...but, more of a snack as I saw mom trotting away with leftovers...so, baby didn't get it all....but, enough to increase its crop size.

They should be about ready to band the baby. I wish they would have a naming contest instead of a screen capture contest.

We need to name these guys...and eventually (just like with Ozzie and Harriet), that's what they will call them~eventually....LOL...

Mom checking up on the little one.

Instead of backing up, she decided to turn around to exit. Very tight squeeze...but, she made it.

Last night around 7:15 pm. Mom brought a snack. Dad had dropped it off on the ledge. Mom really prepped it before giving it to baby.

Of course, the baby just grabbed it and Mom didn't try to get it back.

She (I think I'm calling it a she) did pretty good with it.

After about 10 min., Mom came back down to beak feed the rest.

Look at them together, on the same level. I think this could be a female or a large male. I tried to compare foot/ankle size, but I really couldn't tell. I guess we'll find out when they band

Currently, the baby appears to be to the left of the box. It looks like leftover breakfast in the box. Whatever that black thing is, it wasn't there last night.

They are panning...

Not terribly pleasant. We know they eat other birds...but, I still don't like seeing them...
