:1val: Lights out and the chick was leaning against the slanted wall just outside the nest, but it stood up and preened a little and has just slipped into the nest box.

:teehee: Just saw wingtips only on opposing sides of screen during wing flaps if that makes sense. The chick is very elusive today!!

I am hopeful that all is well with everyone, feathered and not. Also, hopeful that the banding went as planned. I have been watching the chick in the box resting and moving some. I recently noticed an unidentified lump of feathers that I first thought might be an adult, but didn't see any movement. It is located in the foreground of the view to the left near the lighting fixtures. Is it a meal provided for the chick that I hadn't noticed?

thanks, and stay safe,
nick

:7val: It's a girl!! :7val:

2.0223 Pounds !! :loveheart2:

Her right leg received a green USGS federal band which reads 1907-01925, while her left leg received a “field-readable” black over green band which reads 88/AV.

Hi Nick...I saw that, too!! Sometimes at bandings, they will supply quail (or another food source), but they usually put it inside the box. I cannot remember if they do that here.

Great pics on their update!! Great that its a girl as (hopefully) she will stick around a tad longer than a male would!!

I've had the cam up in hopes of catching a parent. No luck...viewing is over for me until Saturday afternoon. Happy watching.

Thanks for the reply, and it is great news all around. Always good to have strong, robust females to add to the population! Glad that they are allowing the chick to mature with her parents and give her that experience, and the parents a chance to experience it for themselves. Now, just hope that they all get a chance for long and productive lives.

thanks and stay safe,
nick armbrust

Yes, well they did feed them when the cage was up for obvious reasons. Hopefully she will stick around a while longer, no siblings to move her along.

:1val: Came in on self-feed in nest with chick eating on bits attached to proximal ends of feathers that are reddish-brown on one side and gray-brown on other side. Don't know where she got it. Prey on outside of nest to the left has different configuration now. Have been checking in frequently hoping to catch a parent, but no luck as yet. She's standing facing us and can finally see her bands.

:eggthumb: They placed the video at the bottom of the update. We finally get to hear the chick and the parents in the air and Sergio the biologist. The banding video :

:1val:Checked frequently and was hoping to see Mom or Dad check in, but didn't see them. I'm sure Mom is further down the parapet or on the roof or ledge somewhere guarding the chick, but not in our view.
