You are very good at capturing events, Loza. I also saw the intruder over toward the column this afternoon and later on the shield when Niecey wasn't around. She flew in and spent a LONG time on the shield and was also in the scrape for a bit before returning to the shield. She was glaring at the intruder on the point, which I'm pretty sure is 38. i was not able to see his band numbers, but I could see black over green. To me, I think 38's eyes are rather recessed in his head.

I'm sitting here with a magnifying glass trying to read the band numbers on that male. I'm not seeing them clearly, but I don't think it's 38/S. I was watching him late this afternoon before he took off. He was looking all over the place and didn't seem comfortable. Niecey was GLARING at him this morning. She seems to be defending the scrape.

No falcons in sight so far today. Harrisburg is being hit with a MAJOR snowstorm. I do not know how to share information from other sites on here, but I can say that the bird in Loza's picture from yesterday afternoon is a FEMALE, born in Baltimore, Maryland in 2017. She has been identified by her bands. Check the main web site for details.

FALCONWIRE:

12/16/2020 :: Visitors on the Ledge

With the end of 2020 almost here, it's looking like early 2021 could be interesting with different falcons currently visiting the 15th floor ledge! The resident female, 48/AE, is 11 years old. There is a new arrival that has been observed recently, 85/AK, a female that was banded on May 9, 2017, at the Transamerica building in Baltimore, MD. She was one of four siblings (one male, three female) whose mother, 09/AR, came from Pennsylvania. This information is a direct indicator of how bird banding can allow biologists to track specific falcons and yield such important information. It may also indicate there may be some competition to determine the breeding male and female for 2021. So stay tuned to PA Falcon Cam to see what happens!

It could be possible this is a male. It will not be the first time a male was tagged a female and will not be the last. A larger male is very often tagged a female. We saw this at Rochester one year, and there have been several others over the years.
