Pritchetts worked with FWC to preserve the remains of E5 after Ozzie removed it from the nest. They are saying they may never know cause of death. Hope to provide research for species. Wouldn't it be wonderful if there is enough left of remains to determine why E5 died. See Loza's video of Ozzie removing the remains of E5 from nest previous post.

I looked at this nest briefly this morning & Harriet was feeding E6 from E5. E6 was touching E5's foot like he was trying to hold hands with E5. I'm probably attributing human emotions to birds, but I got the feeling that he knew it was his sibling & he was trying to communicate with him/her. :girlsad3:

No your not Catwoman! You're attributing bird emotion to birds! This thing that other lifeforms do not have emotions is BS! I myself will be spending time this afternoon with Berta (grey gibbon), who lost her long-time mate Freddy, over 1 week ago. I am their special "human buddy". Freddy became abruptly ill and passed during a 2-week period that I did not go to the zoo ... I am devastated!!! I had just walked up to their exhibit yesterday and noticed Freddy was not with Berta, but not time to register, something may be wrong ... when I was approached by their keeper ... Berta is taking this hard and is not looking her keepers in the eyes. They are going to let me bring a chair in ... to sit with her ... outside her exhibit ... that only glass separates us. She responded to me immediately yesterday. I will do this in my free time, for my buddy, until this is resolved. (A very unexpected, exciting, plan is in the works!) I have witnessed signs of basic and complex emotional expressions from other species as well, including birds. Think of fear, anticipation, joy ... ever see that in other species ... of course we all have!!! We just don't share the same culture, social norms, environment, etc! Anthropomorphize away, Catwoman! You'll get no flack from me!!!

Oh I am so sorry about Freddy. I, like you, sense that animals feel something. It may not be exactly like we humans feel, but I have witnessed behavior over and over again. It is always best to care - make you human.

So very sorry to hear about Freddy... :tissue:

I don't think there is any question that animals "feel"...they love and grieve. heck, this has been proven already by scientists...they just do it differently. They don't have the luxury to mourn for as long as we humans do...they have to move on...their survival depends on that ability!!

We have witnessed our falcons grieve when they loose a young one. It may not be as long as we grieve but they do grieve.
I also noticed E6 with E5s toes, CAtwoman. brought a few more tears to the eyes..
I never could figure out how some think that we are the only ones with emotions.
Dogs express their emotions( love , fear and dislike) and when they bite, it is because they do not like something. Peter and i have seen our RCMP dogs grieve when their masters die.

Adn if I may ask, SWINK who is Freddy.Sorry I do nto know.

Thanks to all of you. I tried to post a link of Freddy @ his Easter egg hunt, but couldn't swing it. Then quite by accident, I ended up with him as a screen saver to my PC and I am thrilled!!! :loveheart2:

I am sure urdognu will not mind me posting the memorial video here of E5.

I hope we can all remember that it was not all bad here. E5 was a dear and only doing what they do to survive. We must always remember this , however harsh it may seem . Such a wonderful. video. ( I was so sure E5 would survive)

It looked like Ozzie almost whacked E6 with the stick. Good duck and tuck E6! :teehee:

Yes, Ozzie did a good job of turning the stick to keep from whacking E6! Thanks, Loza! :snowflake2:
