Glad the cam is back--thanks, Hanny! The lens usually does get cleaned every year just before nesting season. Guess we'll have to wait & see what happens. :16val:

:16val: Thankyou so much Hanny, Ciuciek and Loza for finding Moxie and Jamie home even when the lens is so bad!

Since we're coming up on nesting season pretty soon, I thought I'd provide some information about the cam:

The camera itself is an Axis Communications 213 PTZ Network Camera. It sits inside a fixed dome housing to protect it from the weather and the birds.

When you see ice or crud drawing the focus of the camera and blocking the view, it's not actually the lens; it's the dome. Some of what you're seeing is condensation inside the dome, especially if it's cold. When the sun is low in the sky, it tends to highlight the scratches on the outside of the dome, which also attracts the auto-focus.

The camera is set to auto-focus, because we've found that gives us the best shot at good pictures of the falcons. It mostly works, but sometimes the dome draws the focus instead.

So that's a little bit about the cam.

I know...Picky, picky, picky...but, I sure hope they can get up there to dry off the inside (?) of the Dome, etc. Cobb has this same issue...which isn't an issue when you reset the focus....hint, hint.. :teehee:

Plenty of time. First egg in 2014 was 3/26..

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but John Castrale retired last fall and he has not been replaced as far as I know. Amy, his assistant is filling in for him. Do not know if the DNR would consider making her permanent and if she would even want it. She has 2 small children and all the travel John did overseeing all the non game birds, might not be conducive to her family. In my humble opinion, Amy would be fantastic. And I would offer to babysit those cutie pies!

A new dome could be helpful (no scratches, better sealing) :girlyes:
