Good notes Nadia, thank you. :holwave:
I didnt know the ages.
I DID know its normal for younger eagles to chase off a mate and claim the nest / territory.

So disappointments aside,
all is well in the very beautiful Hamlet
There is an "abundant" (or over abundance) of eagles in Florida
The saddest part of this is the timing.

I suspect eggs will be collected later and are they even fertile?

Thanks for all the terrific updates, pics, info and video links. I never thought to check the log this season.

Definitely looks like a pip now, doesn't it... I wonder what the "cracks" were that were seeing? Nest debris, maybe?
When I read your post that showed the female incubating, was soooo hoping it would be Juliet...
So true, that there's an abundance of eagles in Florida.
We've been so spoiled by Romeo and Juliet's quiet, peaceful nest for all of these years, like an old married couple, so set in their ways. The two Florida cam nests were the first eagles that I followed and fell in love with (and learned a ton about)...

Happy Christmas Eve.... and Thank YOU again.

We continue to hope for the best under the current circumstances;
however, due to potential disturbing content and out of respect for the NEFL nest,

With the unfortunate absence of Romeo’s partner, Juliet,
he is left with unexpected challenges and unknown outcomes."

The moderator is saying that the new female just brought in a fish and ate it, but I did not see that. Romeo had departed and the new female, who incubated for an hour last night, was perched on the Wallenda branch. Suddenly, there were lots of vocals and she flew off cam, higher into the tree. The next thing, she is down in the nest eating a fish. I suspect it is a fish Romeo brought in. The pip is progressing nicely, but I worry about food for this eaglet. Any food that Romeo seems to bring near the nest has been taken by a female.

1223 PM - New female, I believe female #3 that has been at the nest past few days. She has lots of dark flecks on her tail feathers.
Image

328 PM - Pip progress. You can see movement and hear chirping.
Image

340 PM - Female eating the fish.

Romeo just brought in a 2nd fish and the female took it. Grabbed it from him in a tussle right over the eggs. She won and ate the fish. Poor Romeo. How frustrating. Romeo took off again...probably to get another fish. I doubt he will be able to stock this pantry. He is too small to fight off the female for the food he brings nest side. She may very well eat the eaglet.

I am with you Shep...very worried for the eaglet. :nervous:

Romeo brought a 3rd fish and attempted to hide it. He is such a good provider. The female got it. He resumed incubation.

I am not going to watch anymore. I fear the worst for this eaglet.

I want to wish everyone here a very Merry Christmas tomorrow. Be well and be safe.

A very blessed CHRISTmas to all!
Let the Day bring you Peace!

Nature will be what it is.

Romeo has encouraged Missy to stick around when he could have chased her off.
The women will be his undoing.
(where have I heard THAT before? NOT mentioning Miss PIggy)

Nadia, its comforting to see you echo my feelings.
Interesting the cam has posted a warning. GOOD CHOICE.

I do not think the female will eat the eaglet. her, taking the fish is perfectly normal as she sees this as a courting thing and instinct tells her that romeo is bringing her the fish.

I am only watching every once in a while as I choose not to watch adversity.

but I remember deMOrtel l back in 2007 , where a new female came in and chicks had just hatched. Pa was able to find a way to divert her away from nest box to eat and sneak in with food for the kids . one died that year. but her instinct eventually kicked in and she raised the other two.l(S2) now this was a falcon but things are almost the same with eagles.
everything this female is doing is normal. her hormones have not kicked in .

I also hope Juliet is O.K, and healing 'and will pray for a Christmas miracle for this nest.
, whether it be, the new female helps out or Rpmeo is able to raise one on his own

I wish all here a Merry Christmas :cmastree: :rudollph: and a prayer for Peace . Happiness and good health for all.
