Shep, I hope I didn't add to any confusion here. Samson and Delilah were hatched here in the 2013/2014 season. She is a 5 y/o same as he. I referenced 2014 d/t I assumed this is pic taken before she dispersed from the area that spring of 2014 d/t her coloration. ( :teehee: I was very sad when Samson and Delilah left to begin their eagle journeys as I thought I would never see them again. They were wonderful! But, look @ the turn of events! I have seen Samson on cam as an adult and I hope to see Delilah in the future as I know she has already returned to this nest last summer. Unfortunately, I did not get to witness that.) I only posted this to show others and myself how she is identified for future reference. Just as her brother is identified with his "flat toe". I never thought A2 nor Visitor we have recently seen were Delilah.

Same visitor has arrived and in the nest, much to A2's vocal displeasure. She is on the Wallenda branch. The loose fluff of feather that has been clinging to his "widow's peak" (my descriptive term) area over the previous days has moved further down and is clinging to the top of his beak now.

Very short visit as he is gone now! A2 remains. The ground crew is already on site.

The visitor returned a few minutes ago to the nest, then flew to a branch near the IR, I think. A2 remains. Hope it is a peaceful eve for them.

2 overnite eagles
February 2, 2019 Rain
3.30 am Missy + Newbie overnite eagles tucked and perched
AEF calls Newbie - white headed eagle
3.45 am Both move to nest - silently

4 am One returned to branch, I cant see a 2nd eagle.
The cams never moved to nest - doggone!
So I dont know if its in nest or left

4.20 am Now I see on cam 3 an eagle perched on opposite sides of nest
4.45 am Sharp vocal, eagle moves to nest, I only see a tailtip on cam 1
cam op asleep, no nest cam - rather frustrating!

5 am Cam op woke up panned to nest, eagle (Missy) laying in it
The other eagle (Newbie) came down quietly - chased off
We know Missy likes to be in nest in the rain, but I dunno if this is her

5.45 am Both in nest together again - silently - rooting around
twitching cuz bugs are really bad
I got a GOOD LOOK at them together. DEFINITELY both female!

AEF mod note -
Missy and her eagle friend (Newbie) in nest together doing nestorations with soft vocals and beakies. Things are apparently warming up between them.

IDLE THOUGHT
With all the males and females in the area, some must be 'with egg'
Perhaps Newbie is urgently seeking a place for her egg
But she hasnt brought in any fresh grass

AEF decided Newbie is a female.

Happy Birthday to meeeee

:bday

:dancegirl: Your welcome Shep, I hope you have a good one!!
Shep, I read your notes this morning and noticed you said AEF has decided the visitor is a female. I looked, but couldn't find it. Where did you see that? I know they have been divided on this issue. When I went in to watch cams, I found them in the nest doing nestorations and beakies. Seems A2 has warmed up to the visitor overnight! Cam op caught them earlier doing the same.

From chat :
jd_AEF (Moderator): As of 5 am A2 and her eagle friend have hopped into the nest together and are doing nestorations with soft vocals and beakies. Things are apparently warming up between these two eagles.

jd_AEF (Moderator): 5:18 am Visitor hops up to Sunset Branch, A2 remains in nest.

My notes I posted - from chat
As the Nest Turns, part 2
February 1, 2019 .....
Jan 31, 2019 - 8:13 PM gretchen_AEF (Admin): THURSDAY Tuck-In:
(Newbie) is pretty and has spent considerable time at the nest over the past couple of days. Judging by size we believe (Newbie) is a female. She's calm and seems sweet

6.45 am Missy is whining softly

At the risk of guessing ...
its as if Newbie is a year older - like a big sis - teaching Missy
First you must have an egg hole
Next these sticks must be ..just so

There was a male a week or so ago doing nice nestorations

Thanks for clarifying Shep, I just saw your post about Gretchen"s post on the 1/31/19. In your initial post, I thought you meant AEF had declared visitor was a female this morning. I had seen Gretchen's post from 2 days ago @ the time. I still think the visitor is male @ this time, but am willing to change my mind if I can see otherwise. :teehee:

I think he may be a 5 or 6 Y/O as he seems to have some VERY faint and VERY sparse speckles on his head. Otherwise, I ID him with the "notch?" of the left, upper, beak below the nares and the transparency of the very tip of his upper beak. Does anyone else have some tips on how to identify him or her if you believe it is a female?
