I appreciate all the commentary and captures. Unfortunately, I was tied up with Pittsburgh so I didn't see this happening! Thank you! :1val:

It looks like the third egg has a shell halve of one of the earlier hatches on it's thick end. Hope it doesn't cover the pip through which the hatchling gets it's oxygin.

The pip was a good size this morning. I didn't see any movement in the egg, but the cam wasn't on the pip for long enough. Positive vibes for this little one.

I think this is happening at several sites. chick dies before hatch. so fingers crossed. Gord says , if they take too long ot hatch, they do not have enough nutrients and oxygen to survive or die shortly after. there are always exceptions , of course. So we will think positive

Dad replaced Mom. Mom is the one who had the feather stuck to her face. Such adorable sounds the kids make! :flirty:

I was listening to Annie calling for food awhile ago ... she definitely has a great set of lungs!! :teehee:

From FB on chick from last year:

Cal Falcons
5 hrs ·
We have a very exciting update to share with everyone about a recent member of Cal's Class of 2018: Lawrencium (aka Larry aka band number 11/AM), one of last year's chicks has been seen again! Larry (a female) was resighted in the Marin Headlands last fall and then again on Alcatraz last November.

Well, it turns out that she decided to stick around on Alcatraz! She was resighted on the island about two weeks ago while researchers were performing seabird surveys. And sitting next to her: a very friendly male Peregrine Falcon! It's way too early to say for sure that they're starting to set up a territory, but things look pretty good for Larry. In recent memory, there has not been a nest on Alcatraz, so this would be a very exciting development.

Resighting a banded bird is a rare occurrence. We're super lucky in the Bay Area to have a relatively high resighting rate of banded Peregrines (18%!), but it's still an incredibly exciting development to have a bird found after it was banded. So, if you're headed out to Alcatraz at any point, keep your eyes on the water tower (their favorite hangout) and say hi to Larry from everyone in Berkeley!
