It actually quit raining here around 5 for a while, but then what I'd call heavy drizzle started. More rain is in the forecast for tomorrow. Looks like Niecey is spending the night in the scrape with the chicks. It's to get into the mid 40s overnight. This is ridiculous.

I hate it when I don't see Lil dad at the end of his day! I kept checking in this eve, but never saw him. We had another dreary day where I live too, Jane. It's the very end of blackberry winter here. We didn't receive any rain during the day, but it still feels wet out there from all the previous rains and there was a very heavy, dark, overcast all day and it only made it to the 50's today! By next weekend we will be back on track and in the 80's. While I was typing this, I could hear the chicks in a slight upset and I went back in, but all I saw was Niecey stepping back a bit while they were rearranging themselves. Don't know what happened to cause the upset.

Caught the very end of a feeding when tuning in about half an hour ago. Saw Niecey feed one bite, and then she left the scrape with the remains of breakfast. Chicks all huddled together. Looking out my window, I can see that it's dripping again.

Well I didn't see the feed but I saw the end of the feed it in the small picture below but when I clicked on it, the feed was over.

She was fussing and I thought that she was calling for Lil' Dad, but no he was there too. She decided to cuddle the chicks, but they looked too full to be cuddled.

I know all this rain is wearing everybody out.

Both adults took off a little while ago, and don't see either of them now, although one could be on the stick. I'm not aware of a feeding since before noon. Chicks are huddled together to keep warm. At the moment it is NOT raining here and the sun was trying to make an appearance. Temps are around 50.

Watched a LONG feeding that ended about five minutes ago. I suspect the food was someone's homing pigeon, as it had bands on both legs. The chicks were lunging at Niecey to be fed. One of them had the banded leg of the prey, and I hope it didn't swallow it. It went to the back and I couldn't see what happened then. The other leg had been in the front part of the scrape, but when Niecey left I could see nothing of it. One banded leg was red, and the other a turquoise color.

Niecey just hopped down from the corner of the shield to the threshold and the chicks are forming a nice huddle in the back of the nest. Lil Dad has already gone for the night.

Niecey is on the shield and the chicks are in their huddle. There's a bunch of feathers on the point, and don't know if there has been a feeding yet this morning or not. It's cool again now, and the sun is trying hard to come out, but there are really dark clouds to the north.

Currently, Lil Dad is on the point and Niecey is on the front shield while the chicks sleep.

Tuned in a few minutes ago to find a feeding under way. Chicks seemed to be pretty full, and then Little Dad arrived with even MORE food. Niecey too it and fed them the rest, but they weren't really interested. And after Little Dad left there was a slight vibration from the scrape view cam. I switched views quickly and there was Little Dad on his camera perch.

Lil Dad is on the point, not sure how long he"ll stay though as the wind is messing with his feathers! The chicks are in a heap at the back of the nest and Niecey is not seen. At 7:57, he left the point and I found him on the ledge in front of the nest as he was watching Niecey walk into the nest with something to eat for the chicks! He flew back to the point a couple minutes later. By 8:05, the feed is over and the chicks are about the nest, but some are looking in the direction Mom went or maybe they can see Dad! Niecey returned to the front shield for the 1st time since the feed at 8:45, although she has been nearby as I have heard her soft cries in the near distance as I watched Lil Dad on the point. He flew at 8:52:

I saw most of that last feeding. I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of the chicks ventures out of the scrape tomorrow. One had its feet on the wood up against the building earlier, and then turned around. Three of Red Girl's chicks have been on the ledge in front of the nest box at some point today. We are having a light shower here after an almost all dry day.

Jane, I would not be surprised if someone tries as 2 of them were watching Mom or Dad as I described above. They know something's up out there. Seems the rainy and/or cool weather has had them huddled in the corner a lot of times recently and maybe not exploring in the nest as they might be otherwise. I also saw them near the back door at some point today. I did not even notice it raining as you described tonight ... I guess I am so used to it now.

:spring1: Careful, the bright sunshine might blind you here!! But, oh my ... Niecey is on the front shield facing outward looking particularly sleek and beautiful from this angle showing now!! The chicks are asleep in the nest and I don't see Lil Dad anywhere right now.

:buzzybee: Lil Dad just brought in something to eat! I caught the tip of his wing as he was leaving. Niecey is busy feeding and he went to the cam to rest awhile!

:buzzybee: And another feed by Niecey! One is not interested for now. :teehee: I don't know what just happened. She went over by the one not interested and was peeking around it on the floor of the nest. Soon she popped up with a fresh morsel from beside it and now that one is getting a private feed at least for now!! Lil Dad is no longer in view.
