Hahahaha!! He is just now finishing the first bird in hand for me d/t all the buffering, so I guess I will stop soon. I was thinking there would be 1 female and 3 males. It has buffered every 2 seconds for me, but has not missed any of the broadcast. This part took 1 hour for me, from the beginning. Will go back and see what all you all have posted.

Saw number2 and then missed the rest because of buffering.

#2 that I watched was male, left-b/g 22/BZ with white tape.
#3 was male, left-b/g 23/BZ with blue tape.
#1 has red tape and I don't know band numbers or sex, but sure someone will find out.
#4 At first he thought was female, but weight and leg measurements say male. This is the 1st hatched bird here and why he looks a little larger and why his tail feathers are longer. So ... male, left-b/g 24/BZ with yellow tape.

And he just confirmed in the Q&A that all are boys and this is rare, so #1 with the red tape is also male!
They eat approx 6 meals/day.
Average age for males to fly is 40 days and females 45 days.
Average eyesight for humans is 20/20. For peregrines it's 20/4, so they could read a newspaper from 20 feet away if they could read!
As of last year they had 54 pairs of peregrines in the state of Pa, which is about average.
He has banded approx 1000 peregrines. Probably from around 300 nests.

After being told earlier in the presentation that peregrines can't count, with a different presenter, one of the kids asked, "If they have excellent eyesight, why can't they count?" :flirty:

Edit to add: See posts below, as it is being reported that the 1st one banded and placed back to the ledge or nest, before the other 3 were banded was a female.

I just saw all 4 chicks. One of them was walking back toward the nest after being down the ledge on cam 3! Niecey is on the front shield facing them.

Just checking back in.
All look pretty tired, banding is exhausting for them, and me too.

I love the question about the counting. Smart kid. Thanks for sharing that.

I'm a true believer that animals are smarter than we humans think. Can't tell me Niecey can't count her kids. LOL

3 laying outside the scrape. I love after they get banded they start exploring more, especially when they go look in the bad window.

Terka, the bands for the last 3 are noted in one of my posts above your pics and the tape color placed on the right legs are noted for all 4. So far, we don't know the number for #1 officially as this chick was banded on the ledge and the others were brought into the building for banding, but should be b/g 21/BZ.

Edit to add: See update below.

That's what I thought too but Terka's picture clearly shows a 6 in the black part of the band . . . :hmmmm

:sum8: I was just coming over to correct. Saw elsewhere that the one banded on the ledge was a female. And the photo I saw of it indicates the numbers are not 21/BZ. He was so particular that the numbers were in succession, I assumed the 1st one that was placed back on the ledge or nest, before the other 3 were banded would be 21/BZ. I thought I could see a 4 and 6 possibly in that photo elsewhere. I think that makes 3 of us now that thought we heard him say all 4 were males, when asked about the one on the ledge. But, if this is so, then 1 female and 3 males is correct and that was my guess on their genders prior to banding. :teehee: So, I get some satisfaction after looking like a fool!

Red (girl, I guess) and Blue boy.
That seems more realistic, Red should be a girl.
:teehee:
Just read the falcon chatter, is that what it is? Anyway, they say 1 girl and 3 boys. He never really said anything about a girl during the banding of the other 3. As I was closing the cam not really wanting to hear the questions, I heard him answering a question I guess and he said we have all boys , wasn't clear he was including the chick on the ledge or not. Little cconfusing.

I am not an official spokesperson regarding the banding or giving out band numbers. I do know there was some confusion earlier, but there are three males and one female. Red is the female. White is the male with yellow feet. All sacked out in the scrape now. Little Dad on the stick and Niecey on the point.

On Facebook there is a clear picture of the black/green band of the girl, it's 46 over BS and red tape on the other band.
There was some confusion because the first eyas, the girl, was banded upstairs and put back on the ledge to calm the parents. The other three were taken to the room with an audience and those 3 were all male.

I personally don't and won't post band numbers, and not sure how to answer your question, SWINWK.
