Who is who?
The large female chick ELIZABETH wears the S GB identification ring on the right catch, the second large SOPHIE chick is also female and carries the S GC identification ring, the third OTTHEINRICH chick carries the S GD identification ring, with him we were not quite sure about his gender . It could be a female, but also a strong third. The fourth chick FRIEDRICH is clearly a third and carries the S GE identification ring.

I do not name the ring numbers of the ornithological station on the left catch, you can only read them up close. Gender determination is not easy at this age! It's not just about size!

Even in these three weeks of their lives, the females can be easily distinguished from the more delicate thirds by their size, the diameter of the stand bones (ankle), the width of the handles of their catches, their volume and somewhat lower voice position. But to my knowledge, OTTHEINRICH could currently. become a strong third or a - still - weak female peregrine falcon!

That's how we manage OTTHEINRICH here - after my decision - as a male falcon!

It also fits into the blue / pink baby clothes scheme, which has often caused irritation and inquiries among our visitors in previous years. The names of the Heidelberg chicks honor or recall the PATEN! The falcons and I don't care what name we give them, they don't have to suit their gender. Their gender is also equivalent to me. (It was / is the same for me with my own children and grandchildren.) Well, this year names and gender will probably go together!

The main thing is that the offspring is alive and well!
