These pics are misleading...I don't know why, but this chick was frantic...going back and forth and back and forth and back and forth. Most of my stills were a blur!!

Image

Image

This getting ready to fledge, cutie was getting some serious air with its hop/flap action. At one point, it flew from the ledge to the window sill on the left....and stuck the landing.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a fledge tomorrow or Thursday...which figures as I have very limited viewing time both days. Thank goodness for the DVR!!

There are 4 here; 2 on the lower ledge and 2 on the upper.

There had been an earlier food drop that has kept them busy. They've each had a turn.

The 2 males (?~just a guess) are flapping like crazy right now.

We really can't see to the right of the ledge, so I don't know if either parent is trying to tempt them off the ledge with food. Of course, with food still on the ledge, not sure why they'd want to leave...LOL

I'm out of viewing time. Both males (?) are still full of vim and vigor, but they have just had a long feed..

If I have time before I have to leave, I'll come back with some pics.

thanks...just saw your post!! (I have been going throught the DVR for the past 30 min)

I had a few minutes in between places I needed to be, so have been going through the DVR...then came here to post!!...guess its old news...LOL

The fledge is so far away, my pics are gonna be a blur...but, gotta go!!! I'll post tonight...unless somebody else does first!! Catwoman? ljames? maybe?

Also, all 6 were on the ledge at the same time early, early this morning. I think Mom and Dad landed at the same time.

(might I also rub it in....I said Wed or Thursday for first fledge... :teehee: )

I have been going though the DVR for 45 minutes and at this point I'm having trouble seeing anything. I'm going to be glad to see your captures, SGB!

I'm not sure that I ever saw more than 3 juvies on the ledge, Of course, Durand is feeding in the last two shots. I hope everybody is ok and that somebody is on falcon watch.

Note to architects, time stamp needed on cam. You're doing great so far. Thank you.

:bravo

thanks for trying...Most definitely like looking for a needle in a haystack. The Columbus FB page has a vid of the fledge..

Here's why it was so hard to spot!!! Very far away.

I hope he is ok. This ledge isn't high and his trajectory is down. There was a post on FB that he might be in the State House area...which we are very familiar with..its right across from the Rhodes Tower.

#2 Fledged at approximately 6:30 am

He started out on the light

Image

then jumped to the ledge, to the right of his sibling. He jumped over his sibling to the other side. That's where he fledged from. It almost looked like he jumped straight up in the air first before going out.

You're just gonna have to trust me on this one.

Image

No matter how much I slowed down the DVR (you can change the replay speed) or increased my recording speed, I never got any better than a blur.

Current

Durand is so good. she feeds one chick (the baby)...

Image

then goes and feeds the other.

Image

Image

chick #2 (or should I say #3) lost interest and got down. Durand had a few bites then went back to feed Chick #1 (#4, the baby)

After the above (long) feed, Durand took the leftovers (not much) and left. I hope this means she knows where the fledges are.

Image

I sure wish I lived there. It would be so easy to see these fledges coming off the ledge!!

this is so great to see our falcons. am hoping we can get a cam on them for next year.

nesting low is not a bad thing if there are low buildings around them . they can go to those buildings and once they are stronger, they just circle and get higher and higher and go to next high building.

I do not know if pictures of area was posted. but seeing the photos and reports made my day

The building they are nesting on is a few blocks southeast of the Rhodes tower where the previous nestbox was. It is a fairly low building, but most of the buildings around it are also fairly low as well. Its not a big hurdle for fledglings to make it to the tops of the surrounding structures.

My only concern is that there may not be as many folks on the lookout for mis-fledges and grounded juvies around this area. At least with Rhodes tower, they would fledge in the direction of the capitol building where people would be on the lookout.

This is the building that I suspect they are on:

https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9606802 ... 312!8i6656

More specifically, I believe they are on the northwest corner of the structure--it it the only place from the pictures that features 1) a rounded exterior near the window that 2) has a view of the ornamental molding on the YWCA building. Here's a summary of where I think they are, and a circle around the YWCA molding visible from Ms. Norris' post.
Image

Linking an old post of mine to show where the nest is.I'm very familiar with the area from by time in Columbus. It is not far from the old building, but much more flat. I don't have too many worries about the direction of angle the juvies are fledging from. Weather is expected to be seasonal with good visibility and low humidity. Ideal weather for fledging. My only hope is that they remember to stop by now and again to say hi!

A bit lowere is not bad if low buildings by them. They can practise flight from place to place and then go higher. First chance I had to check in, in quite awhile

S/he seems more confident today. More hop/flapping instead of just hopping...and 2 trips to the window ledge so far this morning...

Probably out of order.

1st trip to the window

Foot grab~no help

Still quite a bit of fluff

Preening fluff off

2nd trip to window

Lots of flapping, stretching, and wing droop

Flap/hop

All's quiet right now.
