:1val: The chick is 4 weeks old today. Wonder if they are getting ready to band?

:1val: Falcon in the air! Chick just came from direction of cam. One of parents landed on parapet, saw cam move, took off. The chick picked up the object in the box and it is a bird that has not been de-feathered.

:eggthumb: Banding Friday! Cams will be off. Capture at bottom is almost the same as sky's capture showing Mom and chick size comparison on previous page here. From the site:

Brief excursion around the corner. on the previous page, pic of parent lounging on the ledge while the cam was moving.

I don't know, those ankles look kinda skinny. I may have to change my mind about gender.

No interest in the prey

The chick returned to the box after this...Apparently, while I was uploading pics, it has since left. I don't know where it is.

I hope not. This is a new young pair, it would be really inappropriate in my humble opinion.

SGB- update on Cobb. Bryan ssys the female has been unproductive, no hatches last year. 2 eggs this year, no hatches. Maybe she is old, I'll have to check to see if she is banded.

My humble opinion goes along with yours, Barb. Of course, the cam operator is gonna have to be on his/her toes to keep up.

Thanks for the info on Cobb. I sure do miss watching that nest. Ya never had to worry about babies flying into buildings or cars....plus, it was so peaceful!! NJ has a similar set up with one of their marsh nests. No cams, but the pics sure do remind me of Cobb...igloo and everything.

:1val: Yes I can understand your viewpoint, barb. I am also concerned for the chick slipping off the parapet before it's ready to fledge.

Oops...sorry...didn't see you had posted. Uploading pics takes a while and I miss stuff. You want the cage?I've always wanted them to put astro turf on those ledges. They probably aren't allowed to do that.

I am not fond of the cage as the chick can not run about as it would without it, but see it as a protective measure for it's safety. I understand it would be stressful for 1st time parents initially.

:1val: From the shadow on the building, one of the parents just flew from the parapet. Don't see the chick right now.

:eggthumb: Just came in and chick is alone and tearing and eating prey in front of the nest. It's trying to down a leg with talons right now. I guess it got full as it stepped away and eventually did a PS that landed on the remains of it's meal.
