Their first feed. They're both falling over. One got some food, and I don't know if the second chick got any. Well, they are less than 1 day old so it isn't a big deal. :loveshow:

My observations
Oct 6, 2020 dawn USA
2 have hatched, still one egg
Egg one took very long to hatch
Oct 5 Di stepped on one chick. It was behind her when she noticed.
Later one chick was on its back, couldnt right itself. Di flipped it to its tummy.

For days I have believed Diamond will only raise ONE chick this year.
Eggs 1 and 3 took too long to hatch.
When egg 1 hatched at last, Diamond stepped on the chick.
It survived awhile, falling over a lot. It ate some, finally died.

Egg 3 cracked open enuf I saw movement inside myself.

Chick is egg 2 and appears healthy - so far

I cant imagine what Xavier may be thinking - or what he may do.
He loves his young so much.

Tough report but true.

:sorrow:

The first hatch took way too long and once the chick was out it was mostly on its back. A clear sign something was wrong with it from the start. Always so sad to see this happen. But the second chick seems very healthy, eating well so that is a positive.

ONE CHICK
Oct 12, 2020
Xavier brought prey and tried to feed Diamond. Sweet.
It was too dark for an image.

Yesterday he was 3 hours late bringing prey, was concerning.
I wondered if Di has a new mate. No one else thinks so.
She laid 3 eggs, only 1 surviving chick.

OK bcaw peeps, you KNOW me!
I cant tell the male from the female!
Are you ALL certain this male is Xavier?
Mods in chat say it is.

Yall take good pics!
