On the chat site, there is discussion about when Xavier brought a live Starling into the nest--one woman remarked "I've never seen that at any the nests"; well, she must not watch many nests. Niecy and Lil Dad at the Harrisburg nest deliberately take a live prey into the nest so that their kids can learn how to kill it. That is when the kids are older, pretty close to fledging. I don't like it when they do that, but I understand the need for it.

Thanks Nancy! I don't want to bug you all with too many posts, so I saved up a couple vids this time. :-D See the video descriptions for more info.

"Ravenous Izzi": https://youtu.be/9h7ga_O4uGY
"Tasty Talons" (with music): https://youtu.be/eJxqjt4llRI

Regarding the live starling today, I was surprised that it happened with Izzi being so young. And the prey just wouldn't die and was making noise... That was beyond my comfort level for watching, I admit. Xavier seemed surprised to find it alive when he returned, perhaps? Of course I don't know for sure, but that was my impression. Like it was an oversight on his part to leave it alive this time. Lots of guessing! :)

Sounds like he'd didn't know it was alive. My surprise was that a woman on chat said that never had happened to her and that she watches a lot of nests. It happens to me much more than I am comfortable with. :girlsad3:

I've seen raptors bring live prey to nest.

OSPREY
A turtle was brot to the nest.
Juvie didnt know what to do - and it escaped - LOL!

FALCON
I saw a falcon bring a pigeon to nest, still alive and gasping for air. ugh

EAGLES
I often see live fish in nest still flopping - sometimes out

Xavier brings prey (probably juvenile starling)

and Izzi whirls around with the prey starting to mantle to protect it.

Hi falcon fans! Two more vids of funny Izzi.

"Rock n Roll Fluff Ball" (kinda wacky and with music, in case that's not obvious!): https://youtu.be/V9p4BncQQ3c
"Mine, All Mine!" (2 prey exchanges with speech bubbles, no music): https://youtu.be/dD79Aypk7co

Izzi is hungry, she drives Mom out to get food, Dad has eaten food, Izzi took over,

Mom flew in for Dad. He's gone. Izzi nibbles on his own, and later Mom feeds her and himself

11/16 5.48 am Izzi in the morning, she chased Mom for breakfast

She exercises her wings beautifully, boldly stands in the doorway,

Dad brings breakfast, Izzi takes over, eats then learns to carry food.

Video "Izzi Grows an Attitude!" from yesterday. No music or effects this time, just glorious Izzi sounds of bossing Diamond around and doing some serious skills training, like carrying the unhatched egg. :-D Hard to believe we are almost at fledge time already... I keep wanting to shout, "Hey Izzi, stay back from the edge until your feathers are ready!!!"
