I talked with an expert here (not D. Bird, he's away unfortunately) about the egg shell, he thinks we should let things as they are now or it would cause too much stress for Spirit to have me coming to the box at this point. Hopefully the chick will be able to get out anyways.

As for Polly, she was just at the nestbox not long ago. Spirit was not happy to see her. They both went out of the box and Spirit gave her daughter a few warnings to stay away, no big fight but a few tags. Roger was flying with them too. Then Spirit came back to her babies and Polly went to the second box for a few minutes, now she's gone. She had a full crop - that's confirmation that she can find food on her own.

The chicks were fed twice this morning!

thanks Wizzz. I just got a glimpse of Polly and saw nothing on archives so figured she was not there too long.

Well we love Polly but hey do have to be firm and it looks like they are being that way now.

just saw an exchange. What lungs the kids have :grin: I think the egg of concern has bigger crack now ,if you look closely and something is going on underneath besides the 2 chicks I think
saw on adult get up and leave also but could not get finger ready in time :wink: :wink:

Glad to hear that #2 has arrived safely, but that is so weird about the half shell attaching to an egg. Never seen that before. Hopefully Polly is getting the message now.

I think the mothers usually eat the shells before they have a chance to stick to another egg, but maybe this one attached right after the hatch so Spirit didn't get a chance to eat it!

It was Roger who was on the eggs when the first one hatched so maybe that's why... Spirit ate the other half as soon as she saw it !

Congratulations on Hatch #2...now, fingers crossed with the other two...Wizzz, I'm glad you checked with the biologists..I'm sure they are right about not disturbing things right now...even though I know I'd like to rush right up there...probably not the best idea..
